The deputy speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is subordinate to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka. They are responsible for the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka and they are the second highest ranking legislative officer of the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka, the lower house of the Government of Karnataka. They act as the presiding officer in case of leave or absence caused by death or illness of the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka. [1]

Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna is an Indian politician who served as Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to October 2012. He was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023, Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India.

The Government of Karnataka, abbreviated as GoK or GoKA, formerly known as Government of Mysore (1956–1974), is a democratically elected state body with the governor as the ceremonial head to govern the Southwest Indian state of Karnataka. The governor who is appointed for five years appoints the chief minister and on the advice of the chief minister appoints their council of ministers. Even though the governor remains the ceremonial head of the state, the day-to-day running of the government is taken care of by the chief minister and their council of ministers in whom a great amount of legislative powers are vested.

Jagadish Shivappa Shettar is an Indian politician, who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2012 to 2013. He is currently serving as Member of Karnataka Legislative Council. He has subsequently served as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during 2008–2009. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier in 2023 he had joined the Indian National Congress, where he quit the BJP on being denied the MLA ticket in 2023. He represented Hubli-Dharwad Central Vidhan Sabha seat, which he resigned in 2023 before the elections. In March 2024, he was announced as the BJP candidate from the Belgaum Constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

Nagasandra Hanumantha Shivashankara Reddy is an Indian politician who is a former Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the INC. He is the former deputy speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and 2018 Agriculture minister of Karnataka.He was a Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Gauribidanur legislative constituency for five consecutive terms and for the sixth time he contested unsuccessfully.

The 15th Karnataka Legislative Assembly was constituted after the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections in 2018. Polling was held on 12 May for 222 constituencies out of the 224-member assembly, with counting of votes and results declared on 15 May. The term of the assembly is for five years.

Rudrappa Manappa Lamani is an Indian politician from Karnataka, who is currently serving as the 25th Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, since July 2023. He is an MLA from Haveri Assembly constituency which is reserved for SC community in Haveri district. He won the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election representing Indian National Congress.
