This list provides an overview of devices that support video output over USB-C. Not all USB-C ports support video output; a device is required to specifically provide support for USB-C Alternate Mode, which dedicates some of the physical wires in a USB-C 3.1 cable for direct device-to-host transmission of alternate data protocols.
USB-C, formally known as USB Type-C, is a 24-pin USB connector system, which is distinguished by its two-fold rotationally-symmetrical connector.
Prior to the introduction of USB-C and Alternate Mode, devices that do not have standard-size DisplayPort or HDMI ports (such as smartphones and tablets) provided video output over the Micro USB port, either through the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) or SlimPort standards.
Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) is an industry standard for a mobile audio/video interface that allows the connection of smartphones, tablets, and other portable consumer electronics devices to high-definition televisions (HDTVs), audio receivers, and projectors. The standard was designed to share existing mobile device connectors, such as Micro-USB, and avoid the need to add additional video connectors on devices with limited space for them.
Thunderbolt 3 Alternate Mode streams DisplayPort 1.2 or DisplayPort 1.4 (with Titan Ridge) video within the Thunderbolt 3 stream. Also all Thunderbolt 3 controllers additionally support "DisplayPort Alternate Mode". [1] Therefore all devices listed here also support DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB-C.

As Android and the now-defunct Windows 10 Mobile are mobile operating systems, most manufacturers do not include support for wired video output. Even if support is present, it may not be prominently indicated on a device's specification list.
HTC, Samsung, Huawei have supported DisplayPort on most of their flagship HTC U series, Samsung Galaxy S series, Samsung Galaxy Note series, Huawei Mate series, Huawei P series phones.
The HTC U series is a line of mid-range and high-end Android smartphones developed and produced by HTC. The first phones in the series, the HTC U Play and the HTC U Ultra, were announced in January 2017.
The Samsung Galaxy S series is a line of high-end Android-powered mobile devices produced by Samsung Electronics.
The Samsung Galaxy Note series is a series of high-end Android-based phablets and tablets developed and marketed by Samsung Electronics. The line is primarily oriented towards pen computing; all Galaxy Note models ship with a stylus pen and incorporate a pressure-sensitive Wacom digitizer. All Galaxy Note models also include software features that are oriented towards the stylus and the devices' large screens, such as note-taking and digital scrapbooking apps, and split-screen multitasking.
LG formerly supported DisplayPort on their LG G series and LG V series phones, but dropped support in the G6, G7, V35, V40 phones. With the December 2018 software update, LG enabled DisplayPort output in G7, V35, V40 phones. [21] [ unreliable source ]
The LG G series is a line of high-end Android devices produced by LG Electronics. The "G" designation was first introduced in 2012 as a branch of the LG Optimus series for flagship devices, but LG announced in July 2013 that the "Optimus" name would be discontinued for future flagships in favor of maintaining "G" and "Vu" as distinct brands. The first purely G-branded phone, the LG G2, was unveiled in August 2013.
The LG V series is a line of high-end Android devices produced by LG Electronics. This series is slated above the LG G series. The first phone in the V series, the LG V10, was unveiled in September 2015.
Samsung's DeX mode, Huawei's Easy Projection, and Microsoft's Continuum allow phones to offer a PC-like experience. In addition to regular screen mirroring, they allow apps to be used in multiple windows with a desktop-like interface when connected to an external display with keyboard and mouse. [22] [23]
The gaming-oriented smartphones, ROG Phone and Razer Phone, support DisplayPort. The ROG Phone, when connected to the Mobile Desktop Dock, outputs 4K UHD video through HDMI and DisplayPort. Razer's Project Linda, a work-in-progress concept, allows a docked phone to power a laptop and run apps on a larger screen, with the phone acting as a touchpad or second screen for custom interfaces.
The upcoming Android Q will introduce a native desktop mode. [24]
A bug introduced in Android Oreo has resulted in performance issues (unreliable video/audio). This bug affects phones running stock Android (Razer Phone and Essential Phone) that have been updated from Android Nougat to Oreo. [25]
On devices with no native DisplayPort support, the DisplayLink Presenter app, when used with adapters and docking stations with DisplayLink chipsets, can provide limited screen mirroring functionality. [26] However, as a third-party solution, playback of HDCP-encrypted video content might be disabled. [27]

DisplayPort (DP) is a digital display interface developed by a consortium of PC and chip manufacturers and standardized by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). The interface is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device such as a computer monitor, and it can also carry audio, USB, and other forms of data.
