Shawty, shorty, shauty or shortie is a slang term from African American Vernacular English used generally as a nonspecific term of endearment. In specific settings, it can be interpreted as a catcall. Since the 1990s, the term has also been used to refer to young and attractive women, mostly in hip hop tracks from that decade and those from the early 2000s. Shawty is a Southern and African American variant of shorty, and can also refer to someone of any gender who is shorter in stature compared to a taller person. It is also frequently used to amicably address newcomers, children, and good friends.

Jonatan Aron Leandoer Håstad, known professionally as Yung Lean, is a Swedish rapper, singer and songwriter. Widely cited as one of the most influential figures in the early cloud rap era, Yung Lean rose to prominence in 2013 with his song "Ginseng Strip 2002", which went viral on YouTube. Later that same year, he released his debut mixtape, Unknown Death 2002, and the following year, he released his debut studio album, Unknown Memory.

Helping pioneer an emo revival-style of rap and rock music, Lil Peep has been credited as a leading figure of emo rap music and served as an inspiration to outcasts and youth subcultures.

Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, known professionally as XXXTentacion, was an American rapper and singer-songwriter. Though a controversial figure due to his widely publicized legal troubles, XXXTentacion gained a cult following among his young fanbase during his short career with his depression- and alienation-themed music. Critics and fans often credit him for his musical versatility, with his music exploring emo, trap, trap metal, nu metal, indie rock, lo-fi, hip hop, R&B, and punk rock. He was considered to be a leading figure in the establishment of the emo rap and SoundCloud rap genres, which garnered mainstream attention during the mid-to-late 2010s.

17 is the debut studio album by American rapper and singer XXXTentacion. It was released through Bad Vibes Forever and Empire Distribution on August 25, 2017. With a runtime of just under 22 minutes, 17 is a brief album and does not feature a song longer than three minutes. The album was supported by the lead single "Revenge", and is XXXTentacion's second commercial record, following the compilation mixtape of the same name (2017). 17 includes a sole guest appearance from Trippie Redd and samples by Shiloh Dynasty. Production was handled by XXXTentacion, among others.

Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1, is the debut studio album by American rapper Lil Peep and the only album to be released during his lifetime. It was released on August 15, 2017, by AUTNMY via AWAL. The album was supported by four singles: "Benz Truck (гелик)", "The Brightside", "Awful Things" and "Save That Shit". Lil Peep died exactly three months after the album's release.

Emo rap is a fusion genre of hip hop and emo music. Originating in the SoundCloud rap scene in the mid-2010s, the genre fuses characteristics of hip hop music, such as beats and rapping, with the lyrical themes, instrumentals, and vocals commonly found in emo music. Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, and Juice Wrld are some of the most notable musicians in the genre.

Ronald Oneil Spence, Jr., professionally known as Ronny J, is an American record producer, singer, rapper, and songwriter. He has worked with well-known artists such as Denzel Curry, XXXTentacion, Token, Lil Pump, Bhad Bhabie, Juice Wrld, Sfera Ebbasta, 6ix9ine, Ski Mask the Slump God, Eminem, Machine Gun Kelly, Iggy Azalea, and Kanye West.

It was released through Bad Vibes Forever, Caroline Distribution, and Capitol Music Group on March 16, 2018, and primarily produced by frequent collaborator John Cunningham, it includes a wide range of guest appearances from PnB Rock, Travis Barker of Blink-182, Joey Badass, Matt Ox, Rio Santana, Judah, and Carlos Andrez, and also succeeds the release of his debut studio album 17 (2017) and the extended play A Ghetto Christmas Carol (2017).

Tracy is best known for his collaborations with the late rapper Lil Peep, specifically "Awful Things" which peaked at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100, and for being a prominent member of the "SoundCloud rap" and underground rap scene.

Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 is the second studio album by American rapper Lil Peep. It was released on November 9, 2018, by AUTNMY through Columbia Records. An emo rap album, Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 is a sequel to Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1, and contains similar themes about topics such as cocaine and drug use, depression, suicide, and relationships, delivered through deadpan vocals and alternative rock inspired compositions.

Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne, known professionally as Ski Mask the Slump God, is an American rapper. He is best known for his association with XXXTentacion, with whom he formed the hip hop collective Members Only in 2014. He is notable for his nostalgic-themed musical production and public image, of which is often clad with multi-colored durags. He signed with Victor Victor Worldwide, an imprint of Republic Records to release his debut commercial mixtape You Will Regret (2017), which entered the Billboard 200 and spawned the platinum-certified singles "BabyWipe", "Take a Step Back", and "Catch Me Outside".

"Legends" is a song by American rapper Juice WRLD. It was released as the second single from his EP Too Soon.. on June 22, 2018, three days after the EP's release. The song is a homage to two deceased rappers – Lil Peep, who died by overdose on November 15, 2017, and XXXTentacion, a friend of Juice WRLD's who was murdered on June 18, 2018. This also accounted to his life after his death.

Adam McIlwee, often known by the stage name Wicca Phase Springs Eternal (WPSE), is an American musician from Scranton, Pennsylvania. Beginning his career as a member of the rock band Tigers Jaw, he soon began pursuing a solo career with a sound based in hip hop, emo and witch house. He has worked as a member of collectives such as GothBoiClique, Thraxxhouse and Misery Club. He also played in the indie rock band Pay for Pain.

Michael Ian Olmo, known professionally as Iann Dior, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is best known for his guest apperance on 24kGoldn's 2020 single "Mood", which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 and remains his sole entry on the chart. He signed to Internet Money Records and 10K Projects prior to the release of his debut album, Industry Plant (2019), which was followed by On to Better Things (2022)—both of which entered the Billboard 200.

Golden Landis Von Jones, known professionally as 24kGoldn, is an American rapper. He first rose to fame with his 2019 single "Valentino", which became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and prompted his signing of a recording contract from Barry Weiss' RECORDS, an imprint of Columbia Records. His 2020 follow-up single, "Mood" earned further success as it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 and served as the lead single for his debut studio album El Dorado (2021), which saw modest commercial performance.

GothBoiClique is an American emo rap collective based in Los Angeles, California. It was formed in 2012 by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Cold Hart, and Horse Head. The group's name comes from a beat that Cold Hart sent to Wicca Phase Springs Eternal. In 2016, the group released a mixtape, Yeah It's True.

"Mood" is a song by American rapper 24kGoldn featuring fellow American rapper Iann Dior. It was released on July 24, 2020, through Records and Columbia Records, as the lead single from 24kGoldn's debut studio album, El Dorado (2021). The pop rap and rap rock song is built around a guitar riff inspired by indie rock and post grunge music and also features hi-hats and snare drums in the style of trap music. On the song, 24kGoldn and Dior sing-rap about their toxic relationships in which their lovers are always in a "mood".

El Dorado is the debut studio album by American rapper 24kGoldn. It was released on March 26, 2021, by Records, LLC and distributed by Columbia Records. It follows his debut extended play, Dropped Outta College, which was released in late 2019. The album features guest appearances from DaBaby, Future, Swae Lee, and Iann Dior. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA in the United States in January 2024 for selling 1,000,000 units in the country.
