Herat is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the north-western part of the country. Together with Badghis, Farah, and Ghor provinces, it makes up the north-western region of Afghanistan. Its primary city and administrative capital is Herat City. Malalai Joya Afghan activist, writer and former politician

Malalai Joya is an activist, writer, and a politician from Afghanistan. She served as a Parliamentarian in the National Assembly of Afghanistan from 2005 until early 2007, after being dismissed for publicly denouncing the presence of warlords and war criminals in the Afghan Parliament. She was an outspoken critic of the Karzai administration and its western supporters, particularly the United States.

Anar Dara is a district in Farah Province, Afghanistan. Its population, which is approximately 90% Tajik with a Pashtun minority, was estimated at 30,000 in January 2005. Its capital, Anar Dara, is situated at 801 m altitude, with a population of about 13,300 people.

Rahmatullah Rahmat

Rahmatullah Rahmat is an Afghan politician. He served as the Governor of Paktia province from 2006 to 2007. He was appointed to the position after the assassination of Hakim Taniwal. Rahmat was previously an official of the UNAMA mission in the east of the country.

Farah Airport is a public and military airport located in Farah, Afghanistan. It is operated by the country's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and serves mainly the population of Farah Province. The airport currently provides domestic flight services to several cities but may include international flights sometime in the future.

Abdul Basir Salangi Afghan politician

Abdul Basir Salangi or Abdul Baseer Salangi, born on 8 August 1962 in Parwan, is the ethnic Tajik current Governor of Farah province in Afghanistan, and was a commander in the Afghan Civil War, aligned with Jamiat-e Islami and Ahmad Shah Massoud. Additionally, he was chief of Kabul after the fall of the Taliban until he was replaced by General Baba Jan after being indicted in the Shinpur scandal.

Mohammad Asif Nang was appointed as the governor of Farah Province of Afghanistan on January 22, 2015.

January 2017 Afghanistan bombings

On 10 January 2017, multiple bombings in Afghanistan occurred at government and tribal establishments during the renewed War in Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for all but one of the attacks, which targeted a United Arab Emirates diplomatic mission. In total, at least 64 to at least 88 people were killed and at least 94 were wounded, with at least three attackers also being killed. Other attacks may have taken place.

The Battle of Farah began on 14 May 2018, when Taliban fighters launched an assault on the city of Farah, located in western Afghanistan.

The Islamic State–Taliban conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Islamic State and the Taliban in Afghanistan. The conflict escalated when militants who were affiliated with the Islamic State killed Abdul Ghani, a senior Taliban commander in Logar province on 2 February 2015. Since then, Taliban and the Islamic State have engaged in clashes over the control of territory, mostly in eastern Afghanistan, but clashes have also occurred between the Taliban and the Islamic State's cells which are located in the north-west and south-west.

The government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, referred to by the Taliban Islamic Movement as the Islamic Emirate, is the governing authority and system of Afghanistan.
