Farah Airport( IATA : FAH, ICAO : OAFR) is a defunct aiport located in the eastern section of Farah in Afghanistan, which is the capital city of Farah Province.

The airport is under the Afghan Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), and served the population of southwestern Afghanistan. It provided domestic flight services to several cities in the country, but it was under consideration include international flights sometime in the future. [3] [4] Qatar was working with local authorities to upgrade Farah Airport for international flights in the late 2010s. [5]

Farah Airport was used also used for military purposes in the past by the United States Armed Forces, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and the old Afghan Air Force (AAF). [6] It was renovated and expanded recently in the 2010s, with new facilities added for the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) until 2021.

Under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Air ministry has outsourced operation of Afghanistan's airspace and airports to the United Arab Emirates firm GAAC Holding. [7]

There have been no regular flights from this airport for some years now but there is a push to re-establish flights to Kabuul. [8] It is known the airport has taken flights from the Red Crescent aid organization and has airport security. [9]

The company has its main base at Kabul International Airport, from which it operates domestic flights and international connections to destinations in China, India, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. The carrier is headquartered in Shāre Naw district, Kabul. Ariana Afghan Airlines has been on the list of air carriers banned in the European Union since October 2006.

It is a domestic airport under the country's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), and serves the population of Daykundi Province. Security in and around the airport is provided by the Afghan National Security Forces. It has been used in the past mostly for emergency relief purposes.

The People's Peace Movement or Helmand Peace Convoy is a nonviolent resistance grassroots group in Afghanistan, created in March 2018 after a suicide car bomb attack on 19 March in Lashkargah, Helmand Province. The PPM calls for the military forces of both the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban to implement a ceasefire and advance the Afghan peace process. The group marched across Afghanistan to Kabul, where it met leaders of both parties and conducted sit-ins in front of diplomatic posts, before continuing its march to Balkh and Mazar-i-Sharif, arriving in September 2018.
