Yobe is a state located in northeastern Nigeria. A mainly agricultural state, it was created on 27 August 1991. Yobe State was carved out of Borno State. The capital of Yobe State is Damaturu, and its largest and most populated city is Potiskum. While by Land is Fune, potiskum Local Government Area is a place of Farmers and marketers, the largest cattle market in Africa is located in potiskum.
Borno State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Yobe to the west, Gombe to the southwest for 93 km, and Adamawa to the south while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon for about 426 km, its northern border forms part of the national border with Niger, mostly across the Komadougou-Yobe River, and its northeastern border forms all of the national border with Chad for 85 km, being the only Nigerian state to border three foreign countries. It takes its name from the historic emirate of Borno, with the emirate's old capital of Maiduguri serving as the capital city of Borno State. The state was formed in 1976 when the former North-Eastern State was broken up. It originally included the area that is now Yobe State, which became a distinct state in 1991.
Gombe is the capital city of Gombe State, north-eastern Nigeria, with an estimated population of 573, 000. The major spoken languages in Gombe are Hausa and Fulfulɗe, Tera and Tangale.
Damaturu is a Local Government Area and the capital city of Yobe State in northern Nigeria. It is the headquarters of the Damaturu Emirate.
Bukar Abba Ibrahim (1949) was the governor of Yobe State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He also served as governor of the state from January 1992 to November 1993. He is a member of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP).
Potiskum is a local government area and city in Yobe State, Nigeria. It's the most populous and fastest growing city in Yobe state and originally a home to about three major groups which include the Karai-Karai, Bolewa and Ngizim and Hausa-Fulani out of the several native languages of Yobe State. It is on the A3 highway at 11°43′N11°04′E. It has an area of 559 square kilometres (216 sq mi).
Ibrahim Gaidam is a Nigerian politician who is the incumbent Minister of Police Affairs. During the 2023 General election, he was re-elected the Senator representing the Yobe East Senatorial District within the state of Yobe. He was the immediate past governor of Yobe State, succeeded by the Former APC National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni on 29 May 2019.
Adamu Garba Talba is a native of Karai-Karai born in Nangere, Yobe State. He was elected Senator for the Yobe South constituency of Yobe State, Nigeria, taking office on 29 May 2007.
Goni Modu Zanna Bura was elected Senator for the Yobe East constituency of Yobe State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999. After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999 he was appointed to committees on Ethics, Environment, Health, State & Local Government and Government Affairs. He was a contender to be PDP candidate for Yobe State Governor in the 2003 elections.
On 6 July 2013, Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Government Secondary School in the village of Mamudo in Yobe State Nigeria and killed at least 42 people. Most of the dead were students, though some staff members were also killed.

On February 19, 2018, at 5:30 pm, 110 schoolgirls aged 11–19 years old were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group from the Government Girls' Science and Technical College (GGSTC). Dapchi is located in Bulabulin, Bursari Local Government area of Yobe State, in the northeast part of Nigeria. The federal government of Nigeria deployed the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies to search for the missing schoolgirls and to hopefully enable their return. The governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam, blamed Nigerian Army soldiers for having removed a military checkpoint from the town. Dapchi lies approximately 275 km northwest of Chibok, where over 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014.
Mai Mala Buni is a Nigerian politician who has been serving as the governor of Yobe State since 2019. He was elected as governor during the 2019 Nigeria general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress. Prior to his election as governor, he held the position of national secretary of the All Progressives Congress.
The 2011 Yobe State gubernatorial election was the 5th gubernatorial election of Yobe State. Held on April 26, 2011, the All Nigeria Peoples Party nominee Ibrahim Gaidam won the election, defeating Usman Albishir of the People's Democratic Party.
The 2023 Yobe State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Yobe State, concurrent with elections to the Yobe State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Mai Mala Buni won re-election to a second term.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Yobe State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Yobe State. Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai representing Yobe South, Ibrahim Gaidam representing Yobe East and Ahmad Lawan representing Yobe North all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.
The 2021 Yobe State local elections were held on February 27, 2021, to elect 17 local government chairmen and 178 local government councillors in all 17 local government areas. As in the 2017 elections, the Yobe All Progressives Congress won all 17 chairmanship and 178 councillorship seats.
The 2023 Yobe State House of Assembly election will took place on 18 March 2023, to elect members of the Yobe State House of Assembly. The election was held concurrent with the state gubernatorial election as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. It was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Yobe State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Yobe State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
