Medical education in Azad Kashmir has seen significant growth over the past decade, with the establishment of several institutions aimed at producing skilled healthcare professionals. There are currently four main medical colleges in AJK. These colleges collectively offer over 600 MBBS seats annually, serving thousands of students from AJK and other parts of Pakistan. All colleges are recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and affiliated with the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore. In 2025, the AJK government approved reforms to strengthen these institutions, including increased budgets, new nursing colleges, and strategies to tackle faculty shortages, highlighting a commitment to improving the standard of medical education in the region.
