<span class="mw-page-title-main">Austrian German</span> Variety of Standard German

Austrian German, Austrian Standard German (ASG), Standard Austrian German, Austrian High German, or simply just Austrian, is the variety of Standard German written and spoken in Austria and South Tyrol. It has the highest sociolinguistic prestige locally, as it is the variation used in the media and for other formal situations. In less formal situations, Austrians use Bavarian and Alemannic dialects, which are traditionally spoken but rarely written in Austria. It has been standardized with the publishing of the Österreichisches Wörterbuch in 1951.

The Austrian resistance launched in response to the rise of the fascists across Europe and, more specifically, to the Anschluss in 1938 and resulting occupation of Austria by Germany.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Josef Danhauser</span> Austrian painter (1805–1845)

Josef Danhauser was a painter from the Austrian Empire. He was one of the prominent artists of Biedermeier period, along with Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Peter Fendi, and others. Danhauser's works, which went largely unappreciated in his time, dealt with moralising subjects and had a clear influence of William Hogarth.

Prince Aloys Franz de Paula Maria, known in English as Prince Louis, was an Austrian politician and member of the House of Liechtenstein. He was a deputy in the Austrian Imperial Council from 1878 to 1889 and 1891 to 1911. From 1910 to 1918 he chaired the Christian Social Party. In 1912 he was appointed to the House of Lords. His commitment to social reforms in the spirit of the "Workers' Pope" Leo XIII and his social encyclical Rerum novarum earned him the nickname "Red Prince".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Josef Hoop</span> Prime Minister of Liechtenstein from 1928 to 1945

Franz Josef Hoop was a Liechtensteiner diplomat and politician who served as Prime Minister of Liechtenstein from 1928 to 1945. Hoop is best known for his efforts to retain Liechtenstein's neutrality and independence during World War II. Serving for seventeen years, he is the longest-serving prime minister in the country's history, ahead of his successor Alexander Frick by 79 days. He served under the reign of Johann II, Franz I and Franz Joseph II, making him the only prime minister to serve under three Princes of Liechtenstein consecutively.

The Karl Renner Prize, established on the occasion of the Austrian Federal President Karl Renner’s 80th birthday by the city of Vienna, is awarded to individuals or groups in recognition of merits for Vienna and Austria in cultural, social as well as economic concerns, acknowledged on a national or international level. Endowed with 43,600 euro, the prize is currently given to a maximum of six nominees every three years.
