The Billboard 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. It is published weekly by Billboard magazine. It is frequently used to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Often, a recording act will be remembered by its "number ones", those of their albums that outperformed all others during at least one week. The chart grew from a weekly top 10 list in 1956 to become a top 200 in May 1967, and acquired its present title in March 1992. Its previous names include the Billboard Top LPs (1961–72), Billboard Top LPs & Tapes (1972–84), Billboard Top 200 Albums (1984–85) and Billboard Top Pop Albums.
The English alternative rock band Radiohead have released nine studio albums, one live album, four compilation albums, one remix album, nine video albums, six EPs, 31 singles and 39 music videos. Their debut album, Pablo Honey, released in February 1993, peaked at number 22 in the United Kingdom, receiving platinum certifications in the UK and US. Its debut single, "Creep", is Radiohead's most successful single, entering the top ten in several countries. Radiohead's second album, The Bends, released in March 1995, peaked at number four in the UK, where it was certified triple platinum.
American rock band Marilyn Manson has released ten studio albums, one live album, one compilation album, two extended plays, twenty-nine singles, eight promotional singles, six video albums, and forty music videos.
The discography of Nirvana, an Aberdeen, Washington-based American rock band, consists of three studio albums, twenty-one singles, five live albums, two extended plays, four compilation albums, and two box sets.
British rock band Coldplay has released eight studio albums, ten live albums, seven compilation albums, four video albums, 15 extended plays, fifty-two singles, four promotional singles, and 47 music videos. The band has sold over 100 million records—over 75 million album sales worldwide. In addition, they have achieved five million-selling singles in the United Kingdom, and sold 18.2 million albums and 33.6 million song downloads in the United States.
The discography of Pearl Jam, a Seattle-based alternative rock band, consists of eleven studio albums, fifteen live albums, three compilation albums, thirty-six singles, and numerous official bootlegs.
The discography of Weezer, an American rock band, consists of 13 studio albums, two compilation albums, one video album, six extended plays, 37 singles and 40 music videos. Weezer's self-titled debut studio album, often referred to as The Blue Album, was released in May 1994 through DGC Records. The album was a huge commercial success, peaking at number 16 on the US Billboard 200 and spawning the singles "Undone – The Sweater Song" and "Buddy Holly", both of which were responsible for launching Weezer into mainstream success with the aid of music videos directed by Spike Jonze. It has sold 3.3 million copies in the United States and has been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), becoming the band's best selling album to date. Following the success of their debut album, Weezer took a break from touring for the Christmas holidays. Lead singer Rivers Cuomo began piecing together demo material for Weezer's second studio album. Cuomo's original concept for the album was a space-themed rock opera, Songs from the Black Hole. Ultimately, the Songs from the Black Hole album concept was dropped; the band, however, continued to utilize songs from these sessions into work for their second studio album. Pinkerton was released as the band's second studio album in September 1996. Peaking at number 19 on the Billboard 200, it was considered a critical and commercial failure at the time of its release, selling far less than its triple platinum predecessor. However, in the years following its release, it has seen much critical and commercial championing.
American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars has released five studio albums, three extended plays, sixteen singles, four promotional singles, one video album and fifteen music videos. The band was formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1998 by brothers Jared Leto and Shannon Leto, with Tomo Miličević joining the band later. The band's debut album, 30 Seconds to Mars, was released through Immortal and Virgin Records in August 2002 and peaked at number 107 on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the US Top Heatseekers, selling more than two million copies worldwide as of March 2011. The album produced two singles, "Capricorn " and "Edge of the Earth".
