Live in Rotterdam is a Roller Trio album recorded live at the 2014 EBU European Jazz Competition finals in Rotterdam. It was broadcast on Jazz on 3 (BBC Radio 3). [1]

One week before the performance, saxophonist James Mainwaring broke a bone in his right hand, making the band unable to play their planned set. In one week they wrote a new half hour set of material for one handed sax. Mainwaring also used effects pedals. [2]

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson, was a Canadian jazz pianist, virtuoso and composer. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and informally in the jazz community as "the King of inside swing". He released over 200 recordings, won seven Grammy Awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, and received numerous other awards and honours. Faithless British electronic band

Faithless is a British electronic band formed in London, England in 1994 by Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo. The current, official lineup of the band consists of Bliss And Rollo. The group is best known for the songs "Salva Mea", "Insomnia", "God Is a DJ" and "We Come 1". Faithless has released seven studio albums, with total sales of the first six exceeding 15 million records worldwide. The band announced they would separate after their Passing the Baton dates at Brixton Academy on 7 and 8 April 2011. However, in February 2015, Jazz, Bliss and Rollo reunited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band, but Jazz left to form Maxi Jazz & The E-Type Boys later that year.

Jamie Cullum is an English jazz-pop singer-songwriter and radio presenter. Although primarily a vocalist and pianist, he also accompanies himself on other instruments, including guitar and drums. He has recorded eight studio albums, three compilation albums, one live album and twenty-four singles. Since April 2010, he has presented a weekly Tuesday evening jazz show on BBC Radio 2.

2002 UEFA Cup Final Football match

The 2002 UEFA Cup Final was an association football match played on 8 May 2002, between Feyenoord of the Netherlands and Borussia Dortmund of Germany. Feyenoord won the match 3–2 on their home ground, the Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam. It was the 31st UEFA Cup Final and it was also the first time that the final had been played at a finalist's home ground since the introduction of single–match finals in the UEFA Cup in 1998. Previous to this match, Feyenoord had not won a European trophy since 1974, when they beat Tottenham Hotspur to win the UEFA Cup. Borussia Dortmund, who had already won the Bundesliga title, were hoping to join Ajax, Bayern Munich and Juventus in being the only clubs to win all three European trophies. Feyenoord's victory marked the first European triumph for a Dutch club in seven years, after Ajax won the UEFA Champions League in 1995.

<i>Dads Army</i> British comedy TV series

Dad's Army is a BBC sitcom about the British Home Guard during the Second World War. It was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, and originally broadcast on the BBC from 1968 to 1977. It ran for nine series and 80 episodes in total; a feature film released in 1971, a stage show and a radio version based on the television scripts. The series regularly gained audiences of 18 million viewers, and is still shown internationally.

The 2010 Super League season was the 15th season of the European rugby league football competition, Super League. Fourteen teams competed for the League Leaders' Shield over 27 rounds. All clubs also participated in the 2010 Challenge Cup tournament. Roller Trio are a British jazz-rock trio, who formed whilst studying at Leeds College of Music in 2011. In 2012, their eponymous debut studio album was nominated for the Mercury Prize alongside a nomination for the band as "Best Jazz Act" at the MOBO Awards that year. In performance, John Fordham of The Guardian described their preview gig for the Mercury prize [as having] "the same wild insouciance that has made their sound a howl of fresh air." DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson described their music as "Dark, menacing, bass heavy – the new sound of UK jazzzzzzz!" They are known for their "epic memorably singalong melody hooks and blistering riffs".

Alexander Bone is a British saxophonist, record producer and composer. In March 2014, he won the inaugural BBC Young Musician - Jazz Award, where he performed with the Gwilym Simcock Trio. He has performed as a soloist twice on the BBC Proms, including the Last Night of the Proms.

Fracture is the second studio album by Leeds Jazz-Rock ensemble Roller Trio following the success of their Mercury Prize nominated debut album Roller Trio. It was released in 2014 and in The Guardian John Fordham said [Roller Trio] "have come up with a second album that’s different and diverse, and on a live show it must be a gas". London Jazz News said "This is a marker laid down by a group operating at the vanguard of contemporary jazz." The album received 4 stars in All About Jazz where the reviewer Phil Barnes said, "This ability to blend the accessible and the serious, the melodic and the experimental is a real gift".

Tipping Point is an experimental contemporary jazz quartet from England, founded in 2013 by James Mainwaring. All members are alumni of Leeds College of Music and active in other successful projects.

Between 2017 and 2020, he was a professional dancer on the Irish version of Dancing with the Stars, and in 2021, he became a professional dancer on the British show Strictly Come Dancing.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021 65th Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 was the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, following the country's victory at the 2019 contest with the song "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence. The Netherlands was due to host the 2020 contest, before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the fifth time that the Netherlands had hosted the contest, having previously done so in 1958, 1970, 1976 and 1980. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcasters Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO), Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) and AVROTROS, the contest was held at Rotterdam Ahoy, and consisted of two semi-finals on 18 and 20 May, and the final on 22 May 2021. The three live shows were presented by Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley, Jan Smit and Nikkie de Jager.

The United Kingdom participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The British national broadcaster BBC internally selected James Newman to represent the country with the song "Embers". Newman was due to compete in the 2020 contest with "My Last Breath" before the event's cancellation.
