The Allmusic review by Ken Dryden awarded the album 4 stars noting that "Harold Mabern was nearing his 57th birthday around the time of the two 1993 studio sessions that provided the music for this Japanese release; he's clearly in a mood to celebrate... Highly recommended for hard bop fans". [2]

Harold Mabern Jr. was an American jazz pianist and composer, principally in the hard bop, post-bop, and soul jazz fields. He is described in The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings as "one of the great post-bop pianists".
The Procrastinator is an album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan released posthumously on the Blue Note label, featuring performances by Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins. It was originally issued in 1978 as a double LP featuring tracks recorded in three different sessions: July 1967, September 1969 and October 1969. Alongside the US-issue there was a single album release in Japan the same year titled Lee Morgan All-Star Sextet, which only comprised the session of 1967 (ST-83023/GXF-3023). The first and remastered CD release, that came out in 1995 as part of the Blue Note "Connoisseur Series", included only this session. The remaining tracks of the original double album have been finally issued on CD in 1998 in Japan, then in 2003 in the US, as bonus tracks on Sonic Boom.
The Last Session is the final studio album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan, released only after his death in 1972. It was originally released on the Blue Note label in 1972 as a double LP, and features performances by Morgan, Grachan Moncur III, Bobbi Humphrey, Billy Harper, Harold Mabern, Reggie Workman, Jymie Merritt and Freddie Waits.

Therefore, the CD edition includes performances by Morgan with two line-ups: the first one with David Newman, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins, whilst the second features Julian Priester, George Coleman, Harold Mabern, Walter Booker and Mickey Roker.
