Lorenzo Menakaya is a Nigerian on-air personality, actor, event host, [2] filmmaker [3] and singer. [4] He received nominations for On-Air Personality (OAP) of the year at The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) 2011 [5] and 2012; [6] and he won the award of Outstanding Radio Presenter at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards 2016. [7] He also hosted the Africa Movie Academy Awards, 2019. [8]

Biography

Lorenzo Menakaya was born Tochukwu Lorenzo Uzonna Menakaya to the Menakaya dynasty of Umunya in Anambra State, Nigeria. He was educated at University of Nigeria Secondary School, Nsukka; Menakaya studied Religion at the University of Nigeria before receiving a short training in broadcasting by Institute Panos Afrique de l’Ouest (PANOS Institute West Africa), Dakar, Senegal and Institute for Media and Society, Lagos Nigeria. [9] He recorded his first short film Sundown Tale in 2015 and in 2019, he produced his debut feature film Ordinary Fellows [10] [11] co-directing with Ikenna Aniekwe. In 2019, he was one of the hosts of the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards along with actress Kemi Lala Akindoju and comedian Funnybone. [12] He played the role of Ubong on Trace TV's Crazy, Lovely, Cool. [13]

Personal life

He is cousin to Chichi Menakaya, a Trauma and Orthopedic Surgeon based in the United Kingdom.

The 2019 Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony was held on Sunday 27 October 2019 at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The ceremony recognized and honored excellence among directors, actors, and writers in the film industry. The awards night was hosted by Kemi Lala Akindoju, Lorenzo Menakaya and Funnybone. After receiving up to 700 film entries submitted between 21 October 2018 and 26 January 2019, the organizers of the ceremony announced the nominees on 19 September 2019. The Delivery Boy and Sew the Winter to My Skin led with 13 nominations each while The Burial of Kojo and Redemption followed with 10 each. The Mercy of the Jungle won in the categories Best Film, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Makeup and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Political thriller King of Boys took home three awards on that same night, including awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as Best Nigerian Film.

<i>Ordinary Fellows</i> 2019 drama film

Ordinary Fellows is a 2019 Nigerian coming-of-age drama film directed by Lorenzo Menakaya and Ikenna Aniekwe. It stars Wale Ojo, Ken Erics, Chiwetalu Agu and Somadina Adinma. It’s a story of Youth and Restlessness, set against the back-drop of Nigerian academia and African myths. It had its world premiere in Detroit, Michigan on 17 August 2019, at the African World Film Festival, where it was recognized as Best Direction. It had its African premiere on 28 September 2019 at the Lights, Camera, Africa! Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria.

Somadina Adinma is a Nigerian actor and model. He started acting in 2003, at the age of eight, when he debuted in a comedy movie titled Charge and Bail. He is best known for his roles in the Nollywood films Ordinary Fellows, Breath of Anger, and Forest of Promises.

She subsequently started acting and starred in Nollywood movies and TV series. She featured in the 2017 movie, The Women and won the 2017 Best of Nollywood Awards for the Best Supporting Actress alongside Kate Henshaw and Omoni Oboli.

Yahoo+ is a 2022 Nigerian crime film directed by Ebuka Njoku and co-produced by Lorenzo Menakaya. It stars Ken Erics, Ifeoma Obinwa,Somadina Adinma, Lorenzo Menakaya, and Lillian Echelon Mbadiwe. It was released in July 2022.
