The 2019 Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony was held on Sunday 27 October 2019 at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The ceremony recognized and honored excellence among directors, actors, and writers in the film industry. The awards night was hosted by Kemi Lala Akindoju, Lorenzo Menakaya and Funnybone. After receiving up to 700 film entries submitted between 21 October 2018 and 26 January 2019, the organizers of the ceremony announced the nominees on 19 September 2019.^[2]^[3]^[4] The Delivery Boy and Sew the Winter to My Skin led with 13 nominations each while The Burial of Kojo and Redemption followed with 10 each.^[5] The Mercy of the Jungle won in the categories Best Film, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Makeup and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Political thriller King of Boys took home three awards on that same night, including awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as Best Nigerian Film.^[6]

Stephanie Okereke Linus is a Nigerian actress, film director and model. She has received several awards and nominations for her work as an actress, including the 2003 Reel Award for Best Actress, the 2006 Afro Hollywood Award for Best Actress, and three nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005, 2009 and 2010. The Africa Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence among professionals working in, or non-African professionals who have contributed to, the African film industry. It was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and is run through the Africa Film Academy. The awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture.

The Nolly Awards, formerly the Nollywood Movies Awards, is an annual Nigerian film award presented by the Nollywood Movies TV to honour outstanding achievement in the Nigerian film industry. The inaugural edition was held at the Civic Center, Lagos on 2 June 2012. The most recent ceremony was held on 18 October 2014 at the newly commissioned Intercontinental Hotel, which is the tallest hotel in West Africa. In 2016, the awards was rebranded to The Nolly Awards, with the 2016 edition to hold on May 1, however, the ceremony didn't hold for the second year in a row.

The 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony honouring movies of 2013 was scheduled to take place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on 26 April 2014, but was shifted to 24 May 2014. The nomination party was held at Emperor Palace, Johannesburg, South Africa on 2 April 2014.

Gabriel Afolayan, also known by his musical stage name G-Fresh, is a Nigerian actor and singer.

Kelechi Udegbe is a Nigerian film actor and voice over artist. He is best known for starring as the lead character in Officer Titus. Since his screen debut in 2009, Kelechi has starred in several films and soaps including Behind The Smile, Ojuju, Taxi Driver: Oko Ashewo, Horn Free Day and Kpians: The Feast of Souls.

Deyemi Okanlawon(; born 19 April 1979) is a Nigerian film, television, theatre and voice actor. He is best known for his roles in Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Blood Sisters and King of Boys: The Return of the King. He has been listed as the highest grossing Nollywood actor of 2020 and 2021.

Wole Ojo is a Nigerian actor. He broke into the Nigerian scene in 2009, after winning the fourth edition of the Amstel Malta Box Office reality show.

Jemima Osunde is a Nigerian actress, model, and presenter. She gained exposure after playing Leila in the television series Shuga. Osunde was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in The Delivery Boy (2018).

Olajumoke Odetola is a Nigerian actress and film producer. She started off her Nollywood career in the English-language cinema, before acting in several Yoruba-language films.

Bimbo Ademoye, is a Nigerian actress. She won Best Actress in a Comedy/TV series at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards for her role in the film Selina.

Iheme Faith Uloma better known as Ifu Ennada is a Nigerian film actress and fashion designer and a former BBNaija housemate. She is also an actress, known for winning the AMAA award for Best Young and Promising Actor in the movie O-Town.

Adetola Abdullateef Adedimeji is a Nigerian actor and filmmaker. He gained popularity with his first major role in Yewande Adekoya's 2013 movie titled Kudi Klepto and has acted in over 100 Nigerian movies since he began acting 15 years ago. He is currently a brand ambassador for Airtel and Numatville Megacity.

Lorenzo Menakaya is a Nigerian on-air personality, actor, event host, filmmaker and singer. He received nominations for On-Air Personality (OAP) of the year at The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) 2011 and 2012; and he won the award of Outstanding Radio Presenter at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards 2016. He also hosted the Africa Movie Academy Awards, 2019.

Xolani Thandikaya Qubeka, professionally known as Jahmil X.T Qubeka, is a South African film director, screenwriter, and producer.

No Gold for Kalsaka is a 2019 Burkinabe documentary film written and directed by Michel K. Zongo and co-produced with Florian Schewe.

Make Room is a Nigerian 2018 Hausa feature film showcasing the relationship between love and pursuit of dreams in the face of terrorism, directed by Robert Peters and produced by Rogers Ofime. The film features Kannywood actors and actresses such as Yakubu Muhammed, Sani Muazu, Rekiya Attah and Usman Uzee, supported by Adams Garba, Asabe Madake, Abba Zakky and Abubakar Maina.

The 2019 Best of Nollywood Awards was the 11th edition of the ceremony and took place in the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government in Kano State on 14 December 2019. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was the chief host of the event and the event was co-hosted by actress, Maryam Booth and Gbenga Adeyinka.
