Jemima Osunde (born 30 April 1996) [1] is a Nigerian actress, model, and presenter. She gained exposure after playing Leila in the television series Shuga . [2] Osunde was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in The Delivery Boy (2018). [3]
Jemima Osunde is an Edo State native. [4] She grew up with her mother, father, and older brothers. She is the last child and only daughter of her parents. [5] [6]
She studied physiotherapy at the University of Lagos. [7] [8] [9] Osunde appeared in the film Jungle Jewel after being encouraged by her uncle to pursue acting in 2014.
Osunde's first big break was her role as Laila in MTV Shuga , [10] appearing in the fourth series. When the show moved to South Africa for its fifth series, Osunde was written out for a year. She returned for the sixth series when it return to Nigeria. [11] In 2018, she starred alongside Linda Ejiofor in the second series of NdaniTV's Rumour Has It. [12] [13]
Osunde was back for the seventh series of MTV Shuga's Alone Together which went out nightly featuring "lockdown" conversations between the main characters during lockdown from coronavirus. [14] All of the filmings were done by the actors who include Lerato Walaza, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Mamarumo Marokane, and Mohau Cele. [15]
In 2020, she was cast in Quam's Money , a sequel to the 2018 film New Money . The follow-up story follows what happens when a security guard (Quam) suddenly becomes a multi-millionaire. [16]
In October 2023, she co-launched her beauty brand "Sanaa Beauty" which was founded with Adesua Etomi. [17]
She attended Air Force Primary School, went on to Holy Child college for her secondary school education, and had her tertiary education at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. [18] In 2019, Osunde graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in physiotherapy. [19] Osunde joined the mandatory National Youth Service Corps orientation program and uploaded a picture of herself participating in the program. [20]

The Set Up is a 2019 Nigerian crime thriller film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. The film stars Dakore Akande, Adesua Etomi and Kehinde Bankole in the lead roles. The plot of the film is based on a young woman who drops her childhood innocence as she delves to become a criminal for survival. The film was released on 9 August 2019 and received mixed reviews and was also criticised for too much plot twist and turns in the screenplay. Despite the mixed reception, the film became a success at the box office. It was also streamed via Netflix on 22 April 2020.

The film had its premiere in four different locations in Nigeria including the FilmHouse Cinemas in Lagos on 6 December 2020 ahead of the theatrical release. It had its theatrical release on 11 December 2020 and opened to mixed reviews from critics while also emerged as a box office success. Prior to its release, it was considered one of the most anticipated Nigerian films of 2020.

The Nollywood sequel was jointly produced by Inkblot Productions, Film One Entertainment and Anakle Studios. The film was directed by Naz Onuzo instead of Niyi Akinmolayan, who directed the first part. The film stars Adesua Etomi, Kehinde Bankole, Nancy Isime, Jim Iyke, Tina Mba, Uzor Arukwe, Kate Henshaw, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stan Nze, Lota Chukwu and a host of others. The film was released in Nigeria on 12 August 2022.
