It is one of the largest comprehensive systems of universities,colleges,and community colleges in the United States. Led by chancellor John B. King,the SUNY system has 91,182 employees,including 32,496 faculty members,and some 7,660 degree and certificate programs overall and a $13.37 billion budget. Its flagship universities are SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island in southeastern New York and SUNY Buffalo in the west. Its research university centers also include SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Albany.

Nancy Lusk Zimpher is an American educator,state university leader,and former Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY). Prior to her service at SUNY,Zimpher was a dean and professor of education at Ohio State University;then Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee between 1998 and 2003;and President of the University of Cincinnati from 2003 through May 2009. Zimpher was the first woman to serve as Chancellor of SUNY,UWM's first woman chancellor,and UC's first female president. Zimpher is a native of the village of Gallipolis in southern Ohio.

Bruce Johnstone,(born January 13,1941) is an American educator who served as Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY),headquartered in Albany,New York;and President of Buffalo State College,in Buffalo,New York. Johnstone is also Professor Emeritus at the University at Buffalo (UB). He was named SUNY Chancellor Emeritus in 2014.
Elizabeth D. "Betty" Phillips was the Director of University of Florida Online. She resigned abruptly after serving only three months in that position,without explanation. She previously served as provost and executive vice president of Arizona State University (2006-2013) and provost of the University of Florida (1996-1999),among other administrative positions.
R. Barbara Gitenstein was the president of The College of New Jersey. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Duke University ('70) and a Ph.D. in English and American literature from UNC in 1975. Gitenstein was born in Florala,Alabama,a town of 2,000 where hers was one of the few Jewish families. She attended Holton-Arms School,an all-woman's high school. On July 11,2017,Gitenstein announced she would retire at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
Satish K. Tripathi is an Indian-American academic,a computer scientist and academic administrator. He is the first foreign-born president of the University at Buffalo (UB),the flagship of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Previously,he served as provost of University at Buffalo from 2004 to 2011. From 1997-2004,Tripathi served as dean of the Bourns College of Engineering at University of California,Riverside.
William R. Greiner was President of the University at Buffalo (UB) in the State University of New York (SUNY) system from 1991 to 2004,where he worked for 42 years. Prior to becoming president,Greiner served in other capacities in the University at Buffalo Law School,and in UB's administration. He was educated at both Yale University and Wesleyan University,earning degrees in economics and law,including a doctorate in law from Yale. Under Greiner's leadership,research,educational,sports,arts,and student living complexes were constructed. Greiner co-wrote two books. He retired from UB in 2009,and died shortly thereafter due to heart surgery complications.

LeMura is an American scientist and academic who is the current and 14th President of Le Moyne College in Syracuse,N.Y.,the youngest of the 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. She is the first female layperson to be named the president of a Jesuit institution of higher education in the world.
