Lounsberry is a hamlet within the town of Nichols in Tioga County, New York, United States. It was formerly known as Canfield Corners. The most notable feature is a Best Buy distribution center, the largest employer in the town of Nichols. [1]
Benjamin Lounsberry, Jr. moved to the Nichols area along with the family of Jonathan Platt, who had married the widowed mother of Mr. Lounsberry. After marrying Elizabeth Platt, the two had nine children. The propagation of this family in the area peaked in the late 19th century at the sum of some 30 households bearing the surname Lounsberry, leading to the area being referred to as "Lounsberry.", [2] [3] There remains in Lounsberry one family bearing the historic surname.
Lounsberry was also served by the main line of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad at least through 1903. [4]
Lounsberry is the site of two New York State Historic Markers in Tioga County, one marking the Hamlet and another marking the spot of a pre-1800 ferry crossing to Tioga Center.
On Thursday, September 8, 2011, Lounsberry was greatly affected by the flooding of the Susquehanna River with many residents losing their homes. [5]

The route runs concurrently with NY 96 for a block in Owego and for a few blocks with NY 26 in Endicott.
New York State Route 282 (NY 282) is a north–south state highway located within Tioga County in the Southern Tier of New York in the United States. It extends for 3.48 miles (5.60 km) from the Pennsylvania state line in the town of Nichols, where it connects to Pennsylvania Route 187 (PA 187), to an intersection with NY 17C in the town of Tioga. The route meets the Southern Tier Expressway (NY 17) and crosses over the Susquehanna River just west of the village of Nichols.
Nicetown–Tioga is a neighborhood in the North Philadelphia section of the city of Philadelphia, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It comprises two smaller, older neighborhoods, Nicetown and Tioga, although the distinction between the two is rarely emphasized today. The name "Nicetown" is often simply used to refer to any part of Nicetown–Tioga.
New York State Route 283 (NY 283) was an east–west state highway located within Tioga County in the Southern Tier of New York in the United States. It ran along the south bank of the Susquehanna River from an intersection with NY 282 in the village of Nichols to a junction with NY 17 in the village of Owego. The route was assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York as a Pennsylvania–Owego route. NY 283 was truncated to Nichols in 1949 and eliminated entirely in 1970. Its former routing is now mostly maintained by Tioga County as part of several county routes.
