Lucidchart is a web-based diagramming application [2] that allows users to visually collaborate on drawing, revising and sharing charts and diagrams, and improve processes, systems, and organizational structures. [3] [4] [5] It is produced by Lucid Software Inc., based in Utah, United States [3] [6] and co-founded by Ben Dilts and Karl Sun. [7]
In January 2011, Lucid Software Inc. was incorporated in Delaware through the conversion of Lucidchart, LLC, a Utah limited liability company formed in April 2009. [8] In 2010, Lucid announced that it had integrated Lucidchart into the Google Apps Marketplace. [9]
In 2011, Lucid raised $1 million in seed funding from 500 Startups, 2M Companies, K9 Ventures, and several angel investors. [4]
On October 17, 2018, Lucid announced it had raised an additional $72 million from Meritech Capital, Spectrum Equity and ICONIQ Capital. [10]
In 2020, Lucid launched a digital whiteboarding capability called Lucidspark. [11]
In 2021, Lucid launched a digital cloud visualization capability called Lucidscale.
Lucidchart is entirely browser-based, running on browsers that support HTML5. [12] This means it does not require plugins or updates of a third-party software like Adobe Flash. [13] The platform supports real-time collaboration, allowing all users to work simultaneously on projects and see each user’s additions reflected in real time. Lucidchart also supports importing files from draw.io, Gliffy, OmniGraffle, and Microsoft Visio. [15] The platform is integrated with Google Workspace and Drive, Microsoft Teams and other Office products, Atlassian’s Jira and Confluence, Salesforce, GitHub, Slack, and others. [13] [15] [16]
Gears, formerly Google Gears, is a discontinued utility software offered by Google to create more powerful web apps by adding offline storage and other additional features to web browsers. Released under the BSD license, Gears is free and open-source. Gears was conceived at a time when a comparable alternative was not available. The application is mostly known for creating flowcharts, organization charts, project charts, UML diagrams, mind maps, and other business visuals.

Clipchamp is a freemium video editing tool developed by Australian company Clipchamp Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of Microsoft. It is a web-based, non-linear editing software that allows users to import, edit, and export audiovisual material in a web browser window. Designed to be easy to use including for beginners, Clipchamp has also been integrated into Windows 11 since 2022.
Offline storage also promises to enhance a product sold by the Utah startup LucidChart, which lets people in different locations collaborate on documents over the Web–one user can watch in real time as another draws diagrams and moves images around on screen.
