Lutfi Haziri (born 8 November 1969 in Gjilan,Yugoslavia,now Kosovo) is the deputy chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo and former mayor of Gjilan. He is a former deputy prime minister and minister of Kosovo for Culture,Youth,Sports and Non-residential Affairs. He headed the delegation of Kosovo in the talks on the political status of Kosovo with Serbia in Vienna,Austria in February 2006.
Lutfi Haziri was born on the 8th November 1969 in Gjilan,then Yugoslavia,now Kosovo.
Haziri was part of the students' leadership structures within the University of Pristina during the 1990s. Since 1990,Haziri was part of the structures of the Ministry of Defence of the unrecognised Republic of Kosova and in charge of numerous functions within the then existing parallel structures in Kosovo.
In March 1990,Haziri was elected President of the Youth Forum of the Gjilan branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and served as its president until 1997. [1] In 1997,Haziri was elected as Deputy President of the LDK branch in Gjilan as well as member of the General Council of LDK in Pristina. He remained in both functions until 2000. [1]
In October 1998,Haziri was arrested and imprisoned on charges of leadership of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA-UÇK) structures in the Karadaku zone (Gjilan). After his release in August 1999,Haziri became Deputy Mayor of the municipality of Gjilan,whereas in November 2000 he became mayor of the same municipality. He remained in this position until December 2004. [1]
In June 2001,he was also elected chairman of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities. In this function,Haziri was also chairman of the Kosovo Municipal Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Governance in Strasbourg (Council of Europe). [1]
Haziri obtained a management diploma of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe,certificates of Georgetown University,University of Colorado,a diploma from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) as well as other recognitions from local and international organisations. [1]
On 3 December 2004,Haziri was elected as Kosovo's first Minister for Local Government. In 2006,he was a prominent member of the Kosovar Albanian delegation in UN-led talks on the political status of Kosovo with Serbia. [2]
Haziri stepped down from federal politics in 2013 to run for the mayorship of Gjilan again,which he won. In December 2017,he was re-elected. [3] In the 2021 race,he lost the mayorship to Alban Hyseni. [4]
In 2021,Haziri became the deputy chairman of the LDK and chairman of its branch in Gjilan. [5]
Haziri is married to Mirvete Bajrami,from the Përlepnica village of Gjilan originally,with three daughters,Kenga,Lotina and Mimas and a son Lumi. His daughter Lotina is in a relationship with Kosovo Albanian rapper Mozzik. [6]
Gjilan or Gnjilane is the sixth most populous city in Kosovo and it serves as both a municipality and the administrative center of the Gjilan District. The municipality has a population of 90,178 with approximately 54,239 inhabitants residing in the urban area.
Skënder Hyseni is a Kosovar Albanian politician who is a former Minister of Internal Affairs and a former foreign minister of Kosovo. Hyseni graduated at the University of Pristina,branch of English Language and Literature in 1979. Hyseni stayed for a short period of time for study purposes in Bloomsburg State College-USA (1978) and in Aberdeen University-Scotland (1986).
Local elections were held in Kosovo on 15 November and 13 December 2009. These were the first local elections to be held after Kosovo declared independence in February 2008. The elections were to elect mayors and municipal councils in 36 municipalities,and were contested by 37 ethnic Albanian parties and 21 Serbian lists. All citizens with a valid ID were able to vote in the elections.
Shpend Ali Ahmeti is a Kosovo Albanian politician who served as the mayor of Pristina. He was leader of the New Spirit Party,which merged into Vetëvendosje in 2011,and served as their vice chairman. However,after internal disputes he left the party in 2018 to become the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo. In 2019 he became an independent politician.
Fadil Ferati was a Kosovar political leader,he was the Mayor of Istok and vice-president of Democratic League of Kosovo and he was widely known as a politician who never lost any election.
Local elections were held in Kosovo on 3 November 2013,with a second round on 1 December. These were the first elections which the Serbs of Northern Kosovo participated in since the Republic of Kosovo declared independence in 2008;polls were monitored by the OSCE. There were violent reactions in Serb-majority areas of northern Kosovo.

Gjilan is known as the center of cultural,economical developments. Since 2013 the current Mayor is Lutfi Haziri.
Gramoz Aliu,known professionally as Mozzik,is a Kosovo-Albanian rapper and singer. Born and raised in Ferizaj,Aliu began to make music at an early age before pursuing a professional career as a rapper. He rose to significant attention in Albanian-speaking countries after signing contract with On Records. Aliu later earned popularity in German-speaking Europe,as he collaborated with his wife and fellow rapper Loredana. Their collaborations achieved commercial success in Austria,Germany and Switzerland,and topped the charts in the aforementioned countries. Due to his success,he signed contract with Sony Music Germany and announced his debut studio album to be released in 2020.
Përparim Rama is a Kosovo Albanian architect and urban planner serving as the current Mayor of Pristina since 7 December 2021. His work has been published in London Building Design Magazine and several other international design magazines.
Xhafer Tahiri is a politician in Kosovo. He served in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo from 2013 to 2014 and was the mayor of Vushtrri from 2017 to 2021. Tahiri is a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
