Luzviminda "Luz" Calolot-Ilagan is a Filipina development worker and former congresswoman. She represented the Gabriela Women's Partylist in the 14th Congress of the Philippines from 2007 to 2016.

In September 2017, she was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as Undersecretary for Legislative Liaison Affairs and Special Presidential Directives in the Mindanao Region of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. [1]

Early life and career

Luzviminda Ilagan is the wife of Atty. Laurente "Larry" Ilagan. [2] She was appointed city councilor during the Cory Aquino administration, and elected in the 1998 elections. [3]

She was the recipient of the Datu Bago Awards in 2007. [4] [5]

Ilagan was appointed the undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in September of 2017. [6]

In 2024, she was in favor of passing the divorce bill. [7]

Batasang Pambansa bombing

Congresswoman Ilagan was injured in the 2007 bombing of the Philippine House of Representatives Building, along with Negros Oriental Congressman Pryde Henry Teves, whose eardrums and legs were damaged severely. Congressman Wahab Akbar of Basilan was killed.

The 2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing occurred on the night of November 13, 2007, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, Philippines—the seat of the country's House of Representatives. As Representatives Wahab Akbar, Luzviminda Ilagan (Gabriela), and Pryde Henry Teves were exiting the south wing of the building after a session, explosives in a nearby parked motorcycle were detonated. Akbar and a staffer of Ilagan were killed in the blast. Ilagan and Teves were injured, while four injured staffers later succumbed to their injuries.

Pryde Henry Alipit Teves is a Filipino politician who served as governor of Negros Oriental from June to October 2022, when the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) annulled his proclamation due to a recount of the May 2022 election. He was the mayor of Bayawan, Negros Oriental from 2016 to 2022, and was the Representative of Negros Oriental's 3rd district from 2007 to 2016. He is a survivor of the 2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing, although both of his eardrums and legs were severely injured.

The 19th Congress of the Philippines, composed of the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, convened on July 25, 2022. The 19th Congress is meeting during the first three years of Bongbong Marcos's presidency, and will end on June 6, 2025. The convening of the 19th Congress followed the 2022 general elections, which replaced half of the Senate membership and the entire membership of the House of Representatives.
