The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or Bayan is an alliance of left-wing Philippine organizations. It was founded on International Workers' Day, May 1, 1985 as part of the opposition during the Marcos dictatorship.

The 2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing occurred on the night of November 13, 2007, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, Philippines—the seat of the country's House of Representatives. As Representatives Wahab Akbar, Luzviminda Ilagan (Gabriela), and Pryde Henry Teves were exiting the south wing of the building after a session, explosives in a nearby parked motorcycle were detonated. Akbar and a staffer of Ilagan were killed in the blast. Ilagan and Teves were injured, while four injured staffers later succumbed to their injuries.
Pryde Henry Alipit Teves is a Filipino politician who served as governor of Negros Oriental from June to October 2022, when the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) annulled his proclamation due to a recount of the May 2022 election. He was the mayor of Bayawan, Negros Oriental from 2016 to 2022, and was the Representative of Negros Oriental's 3rd district from 2007 to 2016. He is a survivor of the 2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing, although both of his eardrums and legs were severely injured.
Antonio Ernesto "Anton" Floirendo Lagdameo Jr. is a Filipino politician and businessman serving as the Special Assistant to the President since June 2022 in President Bongbong Marcos' administration. He was the Representative of Davao del Norte's 2nd district from 2007 to 2016. He is married to actress Dawn Zulueta, and is the son of the current Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Antonio Manuel Lagdameo, and a member of the wealthy Floirendo clan in Southern Mindanao.
Batasan Hills is a barangay of Quezon City, Philippines. The barangay was originally planned as the National Government Center of the Philippines. The Batasang Pambansa Complex, which sits atop the Constitution Hill, is the legislative session hall of the House of Representatives of the Philippines. The Sandiganbayan, a special appellate court, is also located here.

Bellaflor Javier Angara-Castillo, simply known as Bella Angara, is a former member of the Philippine House of Representatives representing the lone district of Aurora. She previously served three consecutive terms as governor of Aurora province from 2004 to 2013. She was the third female governor of Aurora province. Prior to being governor, she served three consecutive terms as representative of the lone district of Aurora from 1995 to 2004. She was the first and so far the only woman in the history of the Philippine Congress to become House majority floor leader.

Ernesto "Ernie" Corpus Abella is a Filipino businessman, writer and former evangelist who served in the Duterte administration as Presidential Spokesperson (2016–2017) and Undersecretary for Strategic Communications and Research of the Department of Foreign Affairs (2017–2021). Judy Marigomen Taguiwalo is a Filipina social worker, social activist, and educator. She served as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development under the Duterte administration in an ad interim basis from June 30, 2016 until August 16, 2017, when her appointment by President Rodrigo Duterte was rejected by the Commission on Appointments. She is a former professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman and was one of those nominated by the National Democratic Front to the Duterte Cabinet.
Jesus "Jess" Gestuveo Dureza is a Filipino lawyer, consultant, journalist and politician from Davao City, Philippines. He was the adviser on the peace process to President Rodrigo Duterte from 2016 to 2018 and is the Founding Chairman of Advocacy MindaNow Foundation, a group advocating for peace in Mindanao. He has held various appointive positions in past administrations including the chairmanship of the Mindanao Development Authority, the chairmanship of the Government Peace Negotiating Panel for Talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and Presidential Assistant for Mindanao. He is also a former Representative of the 1st District of Davao City in the Philippine House of Representatives.
The 19th Congress of the Philippines, composed of the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives, convened on July 25, 2022. The 19th Congress is meeting during the first three years of Bongbong Marcos's presidency, and will end on June 6, 2025. The convening of the 19th Congress followed the 2022 general elections, which replaced half of the Senate membership and the entire membership of the House of Representatives.

All provinces will elect their provincial governors for three-year terms, who will be inaugurated on June 30, 2022 after their proclamation. She is also the Deputy Speaker of the House. Known for her advocacy for athletes and sports development, Nograles has also gained attention for her political campaigns, legal career, and legislative work.
