Lydian Nadhaswaram (born 5 September 2005) is an Indian musician from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. [1] [2] In 2019, he appeared on The World's Best on CBS and won, earning a prize money of $1 million. [3] [4] [5]

Early life

Lydian is born to Varshan Satish, a Tamil music director, and Jhansi as their second child. At the age of two, he started performing on the drums and at eight he taught himself to play the piano. [2] He is a student of Augustine Paul, the music director of the century-old Madras Musical Association Choir. [6] [7]

Lydian spent 4 years studying at KM Music Conservatory, a higher education institution founded in 2008 by the AR Rahman Foundation. In a YouTube video Lydian was playing Vande Matram song by A.R. Rahman on the piano in front of Rahman in Lydian's house during a house visit by Rahman. [8]

In September 2019, it was announced that Lydian would make his debut as a film composer with the Malayalam-language fantasy film Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure , directed by Mohanlal, starring himself in the lead. [9] He played the role of Guddu in the film Atkan Chatkan . [10]

<i>Iruvar</i> 1997 Indian film

Iruvar is a 1997 Indian Tamil-language epic political drama film co-written, produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. The film, inspired by the lives of M. Karunanidhi, M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa is set against the backdrop of cinema and politics in Tamil Nadu. It stars an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rai, Revathi, Gautami, Tabu and Nassar. Rai, who was crowned Miss World 1994, made her screen debut through the film, playing dual characters.

Kaatru Veliyidai is the soundtrack album, composed by A. R. Rahman, to the 2017 Indian Tamil romance film of the same name, written and directed by Mani Ratnam starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari. The soundtrack album consists of six tracks each, in the original Tamil, and in the Telugu version of the album. Four of the tracks for the original version were penned by Vairamuthu, one by his son Madhan Karky, and one by Shellee. The lyrics to the Telugu version were written by Sirivennela Sitaramasastri. The album won Rahman the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in the “Songs” category at the 65th National Film Awards. The choreography for the songs were done by Brinda and the cinematography for the film by Ravi Varman.

99 Songs is the soundtrack album composed by A. R. Rahman for the 2021 Indian film of the same name, directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy and produced by Rahman's YM Movies, along with Jio Studios and Ideal Entertainment. The film which stars newcomers Ehan Bhat and Edilsy Vargas, also marked Rahman's maiden stint as a scriptwriter and producer respectively.

Barroz is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language epic fantasy film directed by Mohanlal in his directorial debut. It is based on the novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure by Jijo Punnoose, and produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas. It stars Mohanlal in the titular role, with Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, and Guru Somasundaram in significant other roles. The original score was composed by Mark Kilian, with songs by Lydian Nadhaswaram.

<i>Atkan Chatkan</i> 2020 Indian musical drama film directed by Shiv Hare

Atkan Chatkan is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language musical drama film written and directed by Shiv Hare on his directorial debut. It is produced by Vishakha Singh under Lokaa Entertainment and presented by music composer AR Rahman. The film story revolves around Guddu, a chai delivery boy who eventually teams up with three friends and forms a musical band to take part in a musical competition despite the poor background. The film stars newcomer Lydian Nadhaswaram along with Amitriyaan, Yash Rane, Sachin Chaudhary, Tamanna Dipak and Ayesha Vindhara in the lead roles. The film was premiered via ZEE5 on 5 September 2020 and generally opened to positive reviews from critics.

<i>Mersal</i> (soundtrack) 2017 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Mersal is the soundtrack of the 2017 Tamil action film of the same name directed by Atlee, which stars Vijay in a triple role with Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha as the female leads. The film, which marked the 100th production of Thenandal Studio Limited, has a soundtrack album features four tracks composed by A. R. Rahman, in his first collaboration with Atlee and his third collaboration with Vijay after composing for Udhaya (2004) and Azhagiya Tamizh Magan (2007), whilst Vivek penned the lyrics for all the songs in the film's soundtrack, also in his first association with Rahman.
