Lyle Hare Stadium is an American football stadium located in Spearfish, South Dakota. [1] It is home to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets and the Spearfish High School football teams. [2] [3] It was opened in 1947. [4]
Originally from Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, Lyle Hare attended Dakota Territorial Normal School (now Black Hills State University) and was a member of the school's football and basketball teams. [5] After graduating in 1907, he attended the University of South Dakota where he was a two-time all-conference fullback on the school's football team. [5] He eventually returned to Dakota Territorial Normal School and would serve time as the school's football coach, school physician, and athletic director. [5] He also served as the mayor of Spearfish from 1922 to 1926. [5]
