Sorrento was a ro-pax ferry which was built in 2003 as Eurostar Valencia. She was renamed in 2006. On 28 April 2015, she caught fire off Mallorca, Spain.
Sorrento was 186.50 metres (611 ft 11 in) long, with a beam of 25.60 metres (84 ft 0 in). She had a draught of 6.62 metres (21 ft 9 in). The ship was powered by two Wärtsilä 9L46C diesel engines, [2] rated at 18,900 kilowatts (25,300 hp). [1] They could propel her at 23 knots (43 km/h). The ship had capacity for 1,000 passengers and 160 cars. She was assessed as 26,000 GT, [2] 7,500 DWT. [1]
Eurostar Valencia was built as yard number 197 in 2003 by Cantiere Navale Visentini, Donada, Italy for the Grimaldi Group. She was launched on 18 January 2003 and was delivered on 16 June. Her port of registry is Palermo. Initially operated by Grimaldi Ferries, Eurostar Valencia started her maiden voyage on 5 July when she departed Salerno for Valencia, Spain. She then operated on various route in the Mediterranean Sea calling at Palermo, Salerno, Tunis, Valencia and Valletta. In January 2005, she was transferred to Civitavecchia, operating on routes to Bastia, Cagliari, Porto Vecchio and Toulon. She was renamed Sorrento on 13 November 2006. [1]
From Sorrento was operating on the Salerno - Palermo - Tunis and Civitavecchia - Trapani - Tunis routes. In 2009, she was placed on the Civitavecchia - Trapani - Tunis - Palermo - Salerno - Tunis - Civitavecchia route. In July 2010, she was transferred to the Livorno - Valencia route, followed by a transfer in April 2012 to the Brindisi - Igoumenitsa - Patras route, On 3 March 2014, [1] she was chartered to Atlantica di Navigazione. [3] and was operated by Acciona Trasmediterránea on the Palma de Mallorca - Valencia route. [1]
On 28 April 2015, Sorrento caught fire whilst on a voyage from Palma de Mallorca to Valencia. The ship was 15 nautical miles (27 km) off Mallorca when a fire was discovered on one of the car decks. An emergency was declared and a number of vessels went to the assistance of Sorrento, [3] including the ferries Publia and Visemar One. Publia rescued most of the 156 passengers and crew, who had left the ship by lifeboat. Four crew members were injured. [4] They were taken off by helicopter and transferred to hospital in Palma de Mallorca. [5] The Ports de Balears said in a Twitter post that they feared that Sorrento might sink. [6]
On 29 April 2015, it was announced that efforts would be made to bring the stricken ferry to a harbour in the Balearic Islands. This was welcomed by environmentalists, who criticized a decision two weeks earlier to tow a burning fishing vessel out of port in the Canary Islands. The Oleg Naydenov subsequently foundered and created an oil spill. Sorrento had developed cracks in her hull, and was in danger of sinking some 25 nautical miles (46 km) off Majorca. If she were to sink, this would have an adverse effect on the Sa Dragonera natural park. The weather forecast for the days ahead was for increased winds and wave height. [7] The burnt out ferry was subsequently towed to Sagunto, north of Valencia, where it arrived on 6 May. [8]

The Palma Metro is a light metro system in Palma, Majorca, Spain. The initial line of the system, M1, is 7.2 kilometres (4.5 mi) long and has nine stations. It was constructed between 2005 and 2007 at cost of 312 million euros and opened for service on 25 April 2007. In March 2013, an existing 8.35-kilometre (5.2 mi) rail line with nine stations was incorporated into metro system as the M2 line.
The MS Finbo Cargo is a roll-on/roll-off passenger ferry that was previously called the European Endeavour which was owned and operated by P&O Ferries until May 2019. Eckerö Line purchased the ship from P&O in 2019 and is expected to take delivery in June 2019 and renamed her MS Finbo Cargo.
Costa Pacifica is a Concordia-class cruise ship for Costa Crociere. She was handed over to Costa Crociere on 29 May 2009. Her sister ships, Costa Concordia and Costa Serena, were launched in 2006 and in 2007, with Costa Favolosa and Costa Fascinosa launched in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

GNV Blu is a roll-on/roll-off ferry currently operated by Grandi Navi Veloci. She used to be owned by Stena Line and operated on the Karlskrona – Gdynia service. She was built in 1986 by Van der Giessen de Noord as MS Koningin Beatrix for SMZ. In 1989 she passed under Stena Line's ownership and in 2002 was renamed Stena Baltica. In 2013 she was sold to SNAV. On October 23, 2014, SNAV leased the ship to Panamanian company Ferry Xpress Panama to start operations on the Colon – Cartagena – Colon and Colon – Bocas del Toro – Colon routes. Since 2015 the vessel is operated by Trasmediterránea, and is currently used by Grandi Navi Veloci to serve the Bari–Durres route.
Mar Negro was an armed merchantman of the Nationalist Spanish Navy during the Spanish Civil War. The cargo ship was launched in 1930 along with her sister ship MV Mar Cantábrico, and after five years with the Compañía Marítima Del Nervión company, she was requisitioned by the Spanish Republican Navy in 1936. Captured by a group of Nationalist sympathizers from her crew off Algeria in 1937, she entered in service in 1938 after being converted to an auxiliary cruiser.

MS Regal Star is a Ro-Ro ship owned by the Estonian shipping company Tallink. The vessel was built in 1993 in Saint Petersburg and completed in 2000 in Naples, Italy. Regal Star is registered under the Estonian flag and its home port is Tallinn.
The MS El. Venizelos is a Greek ferry, and 2nd oldest ship in the ANEK Lines fleet. It is a motor Ro-Ro/Passenger ferryboat, built in 1984 at Stocznia im. Komuny Paryskiej, Gdynia, Poland as Stena Polonica and completed in 1992 in Perama, Piraeus, Greece as El Venizelos. It is one of 4 sister ships, Stena Vision and Stena Spirit, both owned by Stena Lines, and the unfinished Lelakis' Regent Sky. It can hold a total of 2300 passenger and 850 cars and has 1606 beds for passengers. It has four Zgoda-Sulzer 16ZV 40/48 diesel engines, with combined power of 34,130 kW and can reach a speed of 22 knots.It also has WiFi Internet, two restaurants. two bars, an amusement arcade, a casino, a church, a duty-free shop, a playground, a hospital, escalators, elevators, air-conditioning and a swimming pool and its cabins can be either "lux", 2-bed, 4-bed, or for the disabled. It is named after Eleftherios Venizelos, a Greek politician who served as Prime Minister of Greece and has Cretan origins. On 30 March El Venizelos laid-up since three days in Piraeus Anchorage had cases with the COVID-19. On 2 April at nine pm El Venizelos moored at the Piraeus Port. From 25 April 2020 to 13 April 2023 she was laid up at Perama.
