Mabel Itohanosa Erioyunvwen Evwierhoma (born May 7,1965) is a Nigerian Professor of Theatre Arts at the University of Abuja. She specializes in dramatic theory,criticism,gender studies and cultural studies. [1] [2] She was former Dean of the Faculty of Arts,University of Abuja (2014 to 2016),former director,Centre for Gender Security Studies and Youth Advancement,University of Abuja (2021 to 2023) and Member Governing Council,University of Abuja (2009 to 2013). Mabel Evwierhoma was born to Peter Omoviroro Tobrise and Theodora Tobrise,née Aiwerioghene on May 7,1965 in Benin City,Oredo LGA of Edo State. She hails from Ukpiovwin village in Udu LGA of Delta State. She attended Abadina Primary School from 1970 to 1975;,and the Federal Government Girls College,Bauchi from 1976 to 1981. She gained her Higher School Certificate in 1983 from Federal School of Arts and Science,Suleja. She proceeded to the University of Ibadan,gaining a BA in Theatre Arts in 1986 and an MA in 1988. She earned her PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan,Ibadan,Oyo State in 1996. [2] She attended the Galilee College,Israel in 2007. Mabel decided to acquire a degree in a different field aside Theatre Arts. She got an LL. B in Law in 2016 from the Igbinedion University,Okada Edo State (after Part Time study). She went on to the Nigerian Law School,Abuja and got a BL in Law in 2018. She acquired the LL. M in Law in 2021 from the Nasarawa State University at Keffi. [3]
From 1989 to 1990 she was a tutorial assistant at the University of Ibadan before joining the University of Abuja in 1990 as an assistant lecturer. She was promoted full Professor in 2005. [1] [4]
She served as Coordinator Remedial and General Studies Unit,University of Abuja (1992 to 1994);Head,Theatre Arts Department,University of Abuja (1998 to 2000);Deputy Director,Consultancy Services Unit (2000 to 2003);Deputy Director,Centre for Gender Security Studies and Advancement (2005 to 2006). [3] She was Director,Development Office,University of Abuja from 2007 to 2011;Member Governing Council,University of Abuja from 2009 to 2013;Dean,Faculty of Arts,University Of Abuja from 2014 to 2016;Director,Diaspora Centre from 2018 to 2020;and,Director,Centre For Gender Security Studies &Youth Advancement,University of Abuja from 2021 to 2023. A festschrift for Evwierhoma was published in 2015. It was entitled,Gender Discourse in African Theatre,Literature and Visual Arts:A Festschrift in Honour of Professor Mabel Evwierhoma, edited by Tracie Chima Utoh –Ezeajugh and Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma. [5] In 2020,another Festschrift was also published. It is entitled,A Graceful Woman of Great Discerning:A Festschrift in Honour of Professor Mabel Evwierhoma @50. She delivered the 18th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Abuja,at the Main Auditorium,Faculty of Management,University of Abuja,entitled,“Mother is Gold:The Mater,the Matter and Women-Centred Approaches in Nigerian Drama and Theatre”,on January 21,2016. [6] In 2019,she was one of three candidates shortlisted for the position of vice chancellor of the University of Abuja. [7]
In June 2020,Mabel Evwierhoma delivered a lecture 'Rape as Anti-culture in Contemporary Nigeria',calling for cultural resistance and constitutional provisions against rape. [8]
In 2023,she wrote the play "The Cut Across". It showcases her experience in dramatic theory,criticism,gender,and cultural studies,and reflected her sensitivity towards gender issues. In this play,the protagonist,Emu,a survivor of female genital mutilation,is determined to challenge the harmful traditional practice in her community after being exposed to Western culture. Supported by her childhood friends,she embarks on a social crusade against a deep-rooted tradition that has existed for generations. [9] [10] The Cut Across portrays the struggles of Urhobo women in Delta State and other regions as they strive to replace harmful customs with more empowering alternatives that allow girls and women to live freely and without harm. Mabel is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR);Nigerian Bar Association (NBA);Member,Nigerian Oral Literature Association;Nigeria Academy of Letters;African Theatre Association;American Studies Association of Nigeria (ASAN) 2004;African Literature Association,USA (2004 to 2010);Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) (2016 to 2017);Women in Nigeria (WIN) (1993 to 1996);Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA);and,Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). [2] [3] She is a Fellow,Association of Nigerian Authors (FANA) 2021;Fellow,Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL) 2020; [13] Fellow,Centre for African American Research Studies (FCAARS) 2015;and,Fellow,Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (FSONTA) 2014. She got an Honorary Fellowship from the Association of Dance Scholars of Nigeria (ADSPON) in June,2024. [2] [3]
She was Editor of the Nigerian Theatre Journal (2 volumes) of Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA) (1999 to 2001). [3]
The Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA) gave her the Life Time Service Award in 2009,and the Outstanding Service Award in April 11,2021.

Lola Shoneyin is a Nigerian poet and author who launched her debut novel,The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives,in the UK in May 2010. Her writing delves into themes related to female sexuality and the difficulties of domestic life in Africa. In April 2014 she was named on the Hay Festival's Africa39 list of 39 Sub-Saharan African writers aged under 40 with potential and talent to define trends in African literature. Lola won the PEN Award in America as well as the Ken Saro-Wiwa Award for prose in Nigeria. She was also on the list for the Orange Prize in the UK for her debut novel,The Secret of Baba Segi's Wives,in 2010. She lives in Lagos,Nigeria,where she runs the annual AkéArts and Book Festival. In 2017,she was named African Literary Person of the Year by Brittle Paper.
Bolanle Awe is a Nigerian and Yoruba history professor. She became the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria in Nsukka. She has been called a Nigerian "intellectual hero".
Peju Layiwola, is an art Historian and visual artist from Nigeria who works in a variety of media and genre. Folake Oritsegbubemi Onayemi was a Nigerian literary scholar. She was Professor of Classics and served as Head of the Department of Classics at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. She was the first woman to be awarded a PhD in Classics in Nigeria and the first black woman to become a Professor of Classics in sub-Saharan Africa. She was an expert on comparative Greco-Roman and Nigerian literature,cultures,and mythology,particularly relating to the roles and representations of women.

Juliana (Julie) Omonukpon Omoifo Okoh is a Nigerian playwright,educator and feminist activist who was professor of theatre theory at the University of Port Harcourt from 2004 to 2017. She was a Fulbright Scholar and in 2011 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA)
Victoria Okojie is a Nigerian librarian,academician and administrator. She was the first Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria,a parastatal of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Okojie is also a past president of the Nigerian Library Association as well as a member of the governing board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). She is a lecturer at the Department of Library and Information Science,University of Abuja,Abuja.

Gbemisola Adeoti is a Nigerian academic and poet. He is a professor of literature in the English Department at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is the author of Naked Soles which was at a time recommended by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board. Gregory Nnamdi Nnabike Mbajiorgu is a Nigerian Associate Professor of Theatre and Film Studies of the University of Nigeria Nsukka. He is a playwright,poet,and established mono dramatist who had solo-performed his first play The Prime Minister's Son, many times both inside and outside of Nigeria. Greg Mbajiorgu is one of the earliest Africans to publish a mono drama;a source recorded him as the first,another source asserts he is the foremost solo dramatist in Nigeria. He has written other plays and poetry about water scarcity and mismanagement,climate change,and the environmental effects of plastics. With Professor Amanze Akpuda,he co-edited 50 Years of Solo Performing Art in Nigerian Theatre:1966-2016, and in 2023,he edited the 420-page book,The Power of One:An Anthology of Nigerian Solo Plays,which comprises sixteen works,including his The Prime Minister’s Son and,The Gadfly by Ahmed Yerima. Greg Mbajiorgu was also former Public Relations Officer (South) of the Association of Nigerian Authors.

Amarachi Attamah-Ugwu is a Nigerian Chant Performance artist,writer,poet,broadcaster,and an advocate for the preservation of the Igbo language from extinction. She is an Igbo language Instructor in the Harvard African Language Program,department of African and African American studies,Harvard University. She is also an Igbo language instructor in the Directed Independent Language Program (DILP),at the Yale center for language study,Yale University. In 2023,she won a grant of $4000 from the Mark and Pearle Clements Internship Award in Syracuse University to support her independent research work:"Museum mapping of Igbo masks in United States and indigenous conceptualization". She was a presenter in the Enugu State Broadcasting Service,and the vice president of the Association of Nigerian Authors. As a chant artist,she has performed in Nigeria,Ghana,South Africa,the United States and the United Kingdom. Attamah is the executive director of Nwadioramma Concept and founder of OJA Cultural Development Initiative. In 2020,she made a poetic documentary of the abandoned heroes of the Biafran war,entitled,Ogbunigwe. She also made another documentary about the horrors of the Biafran war as told by war veterans entitled,"Biafuru". She is the author of Tomorrow's Twist (2007),My Broad Daydream (2011),Making A Difference (2014) and Akuko lfo Nnemochie Kooro m (2014),a collection of short stories in lgbo. In 2021,Attamah co-authored Elephant Tusk with Jeff Unaegbu and others. She is a member of the African Studies Association;Enugu Literary Society,and Association of Critical Heritage Studies.
