Glenn Hughes is an English musician, best known for playing bass and performing vocals in the hard rock band Trapeze and in the Mk. III and IV line-ups of Deep Purple, as well as briefly fronting Black Sabbath in the mid-1980s.
The Whitlams are an Australian Indie rock band formed in late 1992. The original line-up was Tim Freedman on keyboards and lead vocals, Andy Lewis on double bass and Stevie Plunder on guitar and lead vocals. Other than mainstay Freedman, the line-up has changed numerous times. From 2001 to 2022, he was joined by Warwick Hornby on bass guitar, Jak Housden on guitar and Terepai Richmond on drums – forming the band's longest-lasting and best-known line-up. Four of their studio albums have reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 20: Eternal Nightcap, Love This City, Torch the Moon and Little Cloud. Their highest charting singles are "Blow Up the Pokies" and "Fall for You" – both reached number 21. The group's single, "No Aphrodisiac" was listed at number one on the Triple J Hottest 100, 1997 by listeners of national radio station, Triple J. In January 1996 Stevie Plunder was found dead at the base of Wentworth Falls. Andy Lewis died in February 2000.
Icehouse are an Australian rock band, formed in Sydney in 1977 as Flowers. Initially known in their homeland for their pub rock style, the band later achieved mainstream success playing new wave and synth-pop music and attained Top 10 singles chart success locally and in both Europe and the U.S. The mainstay of both Flowers and Icehouse has been Iva Davies supplying additional musicians as required. The name "Icehouse", adopted in 1981, comes from an old, cold flat Davies lived in and the strange building across the road populated by itinerant people.
Crime & the City Solution are an Australian rock band formed in late 1977 by singer-songwriter and mainstay Simon Bonney. They disbanded in 1979 leaving only bootleg recordings and demos. In late 1983, Bonney moved to London and in 1985 he formed a new version of the group which included members of the recently disbanded The Birthday Party. They eventually settled in West-Berlin and issued four albums – Room of Lights (1986), Shine (1988), The Bride Ship (1989) and Paradise Discotheque (1990) – before disbanding again in 1991. In 2012, Bonney reformed the band in Detroit with two veterans of its Berlin era and a handful of new members.
"No Aphrodisiac" is a song by Australian band the Whitlams, released in December 1997 as the second single from their third album, Eternal Nightcap. The song peaked at No. 59 on the Australian Singles Chart. The lead track was written by the band's founding mainstay, Tim Freedman, together with Pinky Beecroft and Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab : both from the band, Machine Gun Fellatio. It was produced by Freedman with Rob Taylor. "No Aphrodisiac" won Song of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards of 1998. It was listed at No. 1 on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 1997. Former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, for whom the band was named, announced news of their win on air. One of its B-sides is "Gough". Machine Gun Fellatio provided a re-mix of "No Aphrodisiac" for the remixes version of the single.
Gregory Stephen Perkins, better known by his stage name Tex Perkins, is an Australian singer-songwriter who fronted the Australian rock band The Cruel Sea, but has also performed with the Beasts of Bourbon, Thug, James Baker Experience, The Butcher Shop, Salamander Jim, and Tex, Don and Charlie. He has also released many solo records. In 1997, a portrait of Tex Perkins by artist Bill Leak won the Packing Room award at the Archibald Prize.
Love Is a Four Letter Word is an Australian drama written by Matt Ford produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2001. It was set and filmed in Newtown, in Sydney, New South Wales, following the lives of a group of friends working in a pub, and the concerns facing urban 20somethings in Australia. One of the regular features of the drama was a performance in the pub by a contemporary Australian band. The program is currently in syndication in the United States on Vibrant TV Network.
Underground Lovers are an Australian pop-rock band whose sound encompasses elements of indie rock, electronic and shoegaze. Founding members Glenn Bennie and Vincent Giarrusso formed the group GBVG in 1988. By May 1990 they became Underground Lovers with Richard Andrew (drums), Maurice Argiro, and Philippa Nihill joining. At the 1992 ARIA Music Awards the group won Best New Talent for their debut self-titled album from March 1991. Their highest charting studio album, Dream It Down, reached the ARIA albums chart top 60. After released seven studio albums, they disbanded in 2002. They reformed in 2009 and subsequently issued three more studio albums. Richard Andrew died in October 2024, after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Christa Teresa Hughes is an Australian singer, circus performer and comedian. She utilises wild on-stage antics and a powerful voice. From the age of 15, Christa performed with her late father, jazz pianist, journalist and broadcaster, Dick Hughes. From 2000 to 2005 she was the nude roller skating singer, KK Juggy, for rock band Machine Gun Fellatio and then until 2008 the Ring Mistress with Circus Oz. During her solo career, Christa has regularly sung jazz and blues, created and starred in numerous musical theatre and cabaret shows, performed on television and appeared in films. She has recorded three albums, Sleepless Beauty (2004) with The Surgeons, 21st Century Blues (2010) with her father, Dick, and Shonky (2011) with the Honky Tonk Shonks.

Connie Thembi Mitchell, also known as Miss Connie, is a South African-born Australian singer. In 1995 she was a founding member of Primary. Briefly, in 2004, she was vocalist for Machine Gun Fellatio under the pseudonym Feyonce. Since mid-2005 Mitchell is the lead vocalist with Sneaky Sound System, appearing on their singles: "I Love It", "Pictures" (December), "UFO", "Goodbye" (October), "Kansas City", "When We Were Young" (November), "16" and "We Love".
Bring It On! is the debut studio album by Australian alternative rock band Machine Gun Fellatio. It was released in 2000 by record label Mushroom.
Glenn Easton Dormand, also known as Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab, is an Australian songwriter, musician, record producer, remixer, TV presenter, radio announcer, podcaster and film director. He was one of the founding members of the band Machine Gun Fellatio. Chit Chat is also known for his presenting work on the Australian TV channel Max. Chit Chat co-wrote the lead singles off 4 albums in Rolling Stones Top 200 Aussies Albums of All Time including The Whitlams – "No Aphrodisiac". In 2003, Chit Chat and 3k Short wrote the original score for the Jonathon Teplitzky film Gettin' Square. For this they won the IF Award for Best Music and received an AFI Award nomination for Best Original Score. In 2019, he created the Stories of Our Town Film project, researching and directing 17 films, 4 of which have been picked up by commercial networks SBS and Foxtel.
The Trilobites were an Australian power pop/rock band formed in Sydney in June 1984. The original members of the Trilobites were Mike Dalton on vocals, Scott Leighton on bass guitar, Martin Martini & Paul Skates on guitars and Paul Styman on drums. Their first two singles, "Venus in Leather"' and "American TV" reached number 1 on the alternative chart. They released three albums, Turn it Around in 1987, Savage Mood Swing in 1990 and The Lost Generation in 1992.
Sekiden were an Australian three-piece pop band formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 1998 by Simon Graydon on lead guitar and vocals, Mirko Vogel on drums and his sister Seja on keyboards and lead vocals. They released two studio albums, Junior Fiction (2003) and Sound Instincts (2006), before disbanding in the following year. Seja Vogel was a touring member of Regurgitator from 2007 to 2009 and then worked as a solo artist to issue two albums, We Have Secrets But Nobody Cares (2010) and All Our Wires (2013).
Birds of Tokyo is the third album by Australian alternative rock band Birds of Tokyo, released on 23 July 2010 through EMI Records. It was recorded in Sydney, Australia; New York City; London; and Gothenburg, Sweden, produced by Scott Horscroft, co-produced by Adam Spark and mixed by Michael Brauer. This is the last album to feature Anthony Jackson on bass guitar before his departure in March 2011. At the J Awards of 2010, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year.
Kings of the Sun are an Australian hard rock band, which were formed by brothers Clifford and Jeffrey Hoad in 1986. They released three studio albums, Kings of the Sun (1988), Full Frontal Attack (1990) and Resurrection (1993), before disbanding in 2001. The Hoad brothers formed a related hard rock band, the Rich and Famous, in 2002. This group also issued three studio albums, The Rich and Famous (2004), Like a Superstar (2006) and Stand Back... Prepare to Be Amazed! (2007), and broke up in 2009. Thereafter the brothers were estranged and no longer worked together. In 2010 elder brother Clifford formed Clifford Hoad's Kings of the Sun, which has issued three albums, Rock Til Ya Die (2013), Razed on Rock (2016) and Playin' to the Heavens (2017). Jeffrey resumed the Rich and Famous band in the mid-2010s, which became inactive by the end of that decade.
Dream It Down is the third album by Australian indie rock/electronic band Underground Lovers, released in 1994. It was the second and final album released as part of a recording contract with the Polydor label and was named Australian album of the year by Triple J. Two singles, "Las Vegas" and "Losin' It" were taken from the album.
