Assembly elections was held in Maharashtra, India in two phases on September 5, 1999 and September 11, 1999. Election results were declared on October 7, 1999. The major parties were Bharatiya Janata Party - Shiv Sena (Yuti) alliance, Congress and NCP. Congress and NCP contested against each other without a pre-poll alliance but came together for a post-poll alliance to stake claim to form the government. Seats won: Congress: 75, NCP: 58. Post-poll-alliance 75+58=133/288. Shiv Sena + BJP = 69 + 56 = 125/288. Vilasrao Deshmukh of Congress became Chief Minister, and NCP's Chhagan Bhujbal became Deputy CM.

Maharashtra State in western India

Maharashtra is a state in the western peninsular region of India occupying a substantial portion of the Deccan plateau. It is the second-most populous state and third-largest state by area in India. Spread over 307,713 km2 (118,809 sq mi), it is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Indian states of Karnataka and Goa to the south, Telangana and Chhattisgarh to the east, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the north west, and Madhya Pradesh to the north. It is the seventh largest country by area and with more than 1.3 billion people, it is the second most populous country as well as the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the northeast; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives, while its Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.

Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously, and in them the BJP-Sena alliance fared better winning 28/48, with Shiv Sena winning 15 seats, BJP 13 seats, Congress 10 seats and NCP 6 seats.

2004 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election

Assembly elections was held in Maharashtra, India on October 13, 2004. The major alliances were the Democratic Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party - Shiv Sena alliance. Other political parties contested were the Bahujan Samajwadi Party, the Samajwadi Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the LJP. 66,000 electronic voting machines were used to elect the 288 members of the Maharashtra legislative assembly.

2009 Indian general election in Maharashtra

The Indian general election, 2009 in Maharashtra were held for 48 seats with the state going to polls in the first three phases of the general elections. The major contenders in the state were the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA). UPA consisted of the Indian National Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party whereas the NDA consisted of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena. The Shiv Sena contested on 22 seats in the state and the BJP over 25 seats . Similarly, the NCP contested on 21 seats and the Indian National Congress contested on 25 seats . Other parties in the fray included the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Bahujan Samaj Party which fielded candidates on 47 seats, and the Fourth Front. The MNS which was contesting its first general elections fielded candidates on 11 seats in the state.

2009 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election

The 13th Assembly elections were held in Maharashtra, India on October 13, 2009. The ruling Democratic Front contested the elections against the alliance of Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Against the Third Front Known as Republican Left Democratic Front popularly known as RIDALOS.

Diwakar Raote Indian politician

The first phase took place on 27 November and saw the BJP emerge as the largest party in municipal councils, winning control of 53 of the 147 councils and winning 857 of the 3,417 seats. The Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party in Nagar Panchayat elections, winning 84 of the 253 seats on 18 Nagar Panchayats.

Niranjan Davkhare is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party. On 28 June 2018, he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Konkan Graduates constituency. He is the son of late NCP leader Vasant Davkhare. Just before Graduate MLC polls in 2018 Niranjan Davkhare had resigned from the NCP and had joined the BJP. He held the same seat from 2012-2018 on an NCP ticket.

The Indian general election, 2019 in Maharashtra will be held in April 2019. These will be held for 48 seats in 4 phases; 11 April, 18 April, 23 April and 29 April 2019.
