Mahboob Rahman Ruhel (born 8 July 1970) [3] is a Bangladeshi politician, businessman and film producer. [4] He is the Chairman of The Peninsula Chittagong Limited since 30 October 2014. [5] He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Film and Best Screenplay awards for the film No Dorai (2019). [6] He is the founder and Chairman of ShowMotion Limited which owns the Star Cineplex movie theaters. [7] Additionally, he is the managing director of Sayeman Beach Resort.
Mahboob's father Mosharraf Hossain is a Awami League politician, having previously served as Jatiya Sangsad member from the Chittagong-1 constituency and a former minister of the government of Bangladesh. Mahboob earned his bachelor's degree in information systems and computer science from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from Aalto University Executive Education. [8]
Mahboob Rahman entered the local politics of Mirsarai in 2024 as the candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League. Mahboob has won the election his debut election in Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai) seat. He got of 89,064 votes, while his closest rival candidate Md Giyas Uddin got 52,995 votes. [9]

After his graduation from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 1966 he joined politics and was elected as a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of what was then East Pakistan in 1970. In the political arena, he is the presidium member, the highest policy-making post of the Awami League, the oldest and traditional political organization of the country. His constituency is Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai). He served the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the Awami League government in 1996. He made significant contributions to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He served as the minister in charge of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works till 6 January 2019.
Shamsher M. Chowdhury Bir Bikrom is a Bangladeshi diplomat and served as the Foreign Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs from October 2001 to March 2005. He also served as the ambassador of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, Germany, Vietnam and United States.
