Mahboob Alam (born 1956/1957 [1] ) is an Indian politician. He is a member of the Central Committee as well as the Bihar State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. [2] [3] He has represented the Barsoi and Balrampur constituencies in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Since 1994,he has been arrested numerous times on accusations of murder,and was incarcerated for 17 months in the late 2000s.
Alam,an agriculturist,studied up to Class XII. [1] He contested the Barsoi seat in the 1985 Bihar Legislative Assembly election as a Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate,finishing in second place with 14,189 votes (20.59%). [4]
He again contested the Barsoi seat in the 1990 Bihar Legislative Assembly election as an independent,finishing in second place with 15,495 votes (17.94%). [5]
Alam won the Barsoi seat in the 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly election,standing as a CPI(ML) Liberation candidate. [6] He got 62,644 votes (51.83%). [7]
He retained the Barsoi seat in the February 2005 Bihar legislative election,winning 45,451 votes. [8] However,ahead of the subsequent October 2005 Bihar Legislative Assembly election Alam was barred from contesting as his name had been deleted from the voters' list. [6] CPI(ML) Liberation fielded Alam's younger brother Munaf Alam instead,who won the seat. [6]
CPI(ML) Liberation fielded Alam as its candidate in Katihar Lok Saba seat in the 2009 parliamentary election. [9] He obtained 32,035 votes (4.42%). [10]
The Barsoi constituency was abolished ahead of the 2010 Bihar Legislative Assembly election,and the Balrampur constituency was created in its stead. Alam finished in second place in Balrampur with 45,432 votes (30.85%). [11] [12]
Alam filed his nomination papers for the Katihar Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 parliamentary election but was arrested right after the filing. [13] He obtained 9,461 votes (0.97%) in the election. [14]
Ahead of the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election Alam declared 2,296,000 Indian rupees in assets and 13 criminal cases against him. [1] Out of the 13 cases,he declared three murder charges filed against him. [15] Alam won the seat. [16]
In the 2020 assembly election,Alam won Balrampur Legislative Assembly seat with a 53,597 vote margin to his nearest rival Barun Kumar Jha of Vikashsheel Insaan Party (VIP). Alam got 104,489 votes,Jha got 50,892 Votes. [17]
Alam was arrested in 1994 for the killing of the spouse of a politician from Barsoi. [6] He was released from prison the following year. [6]
On September 1,2007 Alam was arrested by plainclothes police at a meeting in Shankula,after a long period as a fugitive from the law. [18] [6] According to police,he was wanted in connection with numerous cases of murders,rioting,and other infractions of the Arms Act. [6] According to CPI(ML) Liberation,Alam had been falsely framed for murder. [18] A bandh (shutdown) was organized in the Barsoi bloc to protest the arrest and demonstrations were held across the state demanding his release. [18] He was later released on bail after 17 months of incarceration. [13] [19]
Police arrested Alam in connection with a murder charge just after he filed his nomination papers for the Katihar Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 parliamentary election. [13]
On July 30,2016,Mahbub Alam was booked for slapping a branch manager of bank in Bihar's Katihar district. [20]
The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation is a communist political party in India. The party is represented in Bihar and Jharkhand Legislative Assemblies. Since 2023,the party is also a member of the INDIA electoral alliance. In Bihar,the party has significant base amongst the Extremely Backward Castes and the Schedule Castes. It was successful in mobilising Upper Backward Caste groups such as Koeris in some districts of central Bihar,prior to the rise of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The party faced existential crisis when a large section of its Koeri and Yadav support base defected to Rashtriya Janata Dal in 1990s. However,the ideological commitment of its cadre protected it from disintegration. It staged a comeback in politics after winning twelve seats in Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2020 and by sending two of its members to Lok Sabha in 2024 Indian general elections.

Leba Chand Tudu;was an Indian Communist politician. In August 1969,he was included in the Bengal-Bihar-Orissa Border Regional Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist). As of 1970 he was the Gopibhallavpur Area Committee secretary of CPI(ML). He emerged as a leader of tribal communities in Jhargram district,and struggled for promotion of Santhali language. Tudu was released from jail in 1977. He contested the Nayagram Assembly constituency seat in the 1977 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. He finishing in third place with 7,071 votes (17.49%). He stood as a candidate in the Jhargram constituency in the 1980 Indian general election,finishing in third place with 29,338 votes (5.97%).
Raja Ram Singh or Raja Ram Singh Kushwaha,is an Indian politician based in Bihar,who was elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly twice,from Obra Assembly constituency in Aurangabad district. He is a member of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation. He was first elected in 1995 and retained this constituency in 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. He is also a politburo member of CPI(ML)L. In 2024 Indian general election,he defeated Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh with a margin of over one lakh votes to win Karakat Lok Sabha constituency. He stood first in the triangular electoral contest involving National Democratic Alliance candidate and Rashtriya Lok Morcha president,Upendra Kushwaha and Pawan Singh.
