Dr. Mahendra Kumar Singh (born 15 March 1967) is a senior leader of Bhartiya Janata Party and serving his 3rd term as Member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council since 2012. He previously served as Cabinet Minister in first Yogi Cabinet.
Dr. Mahendra Kumar Singh was born on March 15,1967,in the village of Karmahi,located in the Pratapgarh,Uttar Pradesh,Raised in a traditional farming family,he is the son of the late Ramdas Singh and the late Indumati Singh. Growing up alongside his four brothers,Dr. Singh’s early life was defined by the values of hard work and rural heritage. He pursued his higher education at the University of Lucknow,where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (1992),a Master of Arts (1995),and eventually a PhD in 2003. His transition into public life began during his student days,fueled by his involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) starting at the age of 16. Professionally,he served as a professor at the University of Lucknow before fully dedicating himself to a political career that saw him rise to become a Cabinet Minister for Jal Shakti and a key strategist for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is married to Gita Singh,and the couple has one son and one daughter,maintaining a life that balances his deep-rooted family ties in Pratapgarh with his extensive political responsibilities across India.
Dr. Singh's political career began with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its student wing,the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

During this period,the department received 12 National Awards from the Government of India in 2018. These awards recognized the state's performance in implementing central schemes,including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and MNREGA.
As the inaugural Jal Shakti Minister of Uttar Pradesh,Singh spearheaded the "Har Ghar Jal" initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission. His focus remained on providing piped water infrastructure to the water-stressed regions of Bundelkhand and Vindhyachal.
Singh's administrative work has been frequently cited at the national level. In 2018,while receiving 12 national awards at Vigyan Bhawan,he attributed the success to the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for rural development.
