Malachy Ikechukwu Okwueze (May 30, 1962) is a Nigerian Professor of Religion and Ethics, in the Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. [1] He was the first Vice Chancellor of the Coal City University between 2016 and 2020, [2]
Okwueze was born on May 30, 1962, in Nsukka. He attended both his Primary and Post-Primary School Education at Anglican Grammar School, currently referred to Nsukka High School, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria.
After passing his West African School Certificate (WASC) Examination in Division One, Okwueze then proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a First Class Honours bachelor's degree in Religion and was also the Best Graduating Student of the University of Nigeria, in 1987. Okwueze went further to obtain his master's degree in 1989, and later earned PhD Degree in Religion in 1995, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka respectively. He also obtained LL.B Degree in Law from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) and was the Best Graduating Student in Commercial Law in 1992. Okwueze was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1996 at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He graduated as the Second Best overall Graduating Student of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1996. [1]
Okwueze is the director of legal service, Society for Research and Academic Excellence, University of Nigeria, Nsukka [4] He was the first Vice Chancellor of Coal City University between 2016 and 2020, [2] and the former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Government under the administration of former Governor Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. [5] [6] Okwueze has also served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), University of Nigeria Nsukka, from 2012 to 2014; Dean, Student Affair, University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Head, Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka; chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Nsukka Branch. He is a member of Editorial board of Nsukka Journal of Religion and Cultural Studies (NJRCS). Okwueze also served as a member of one of the 12 Sectoral Ad Hoc Committees instituted by the Enugu State Government, for reform of public service in the state, under the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. The University of Nigeria Nsukka was formally opened on 7 October 1960. The University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State–Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – and the Aba campus in Abia State.

Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Enugu State from 2015 to 2023. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for 12 years. He is a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who re-presented Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constinuency of Enugu State.
Cyril Agodi Onwumechili was a Nigerian physicist, academic administrator, and professor of geophysics at the University of Ibadan and later University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the fourth Vice Chancellor of the University of Ife from January 1979 to December 1982 and the former President/Vice Chancellor of the Anambra State University of Technology, Enugu, Nigeria, from January 1983 to December 1986. He delivered the Ahiajoku lecture on 20 November 2000. He was the first Nigerian geophysicist and the second president of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He was elected as president of the Academy in 1979 to succeed Professor Victor Adenuga Oyenuga, the first emeritus professor of the University of Ibadan and the first African professor of Agricultural science.
Nru Nsukka is a suburb located in Nsukka town. Nru Nsukka is one of the former old three autonomous communities: Mkpunanor, Nru and Ihe n'Owerre that made up the Nsukka urban area. Nru Nsukka having been upgraded to a suburban area was split into three newer autonomous communities with newly installed traditional rulers. Since 2018, the suburb is now made up of Iheagu Nru autonomous community with its traditional ruler as Sylvanus Arumah, Ezema ne Edem autonomous community with its traditional ruler as Linus.O. Atugwu and the youngest being Umuoyo Nru autonomous community with Paul Atanike as its traditional ruler elect.
Ositadimma Chinedu Nebo is currently the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, located in Umunya, Anambra State. He is also an archdeacon in the Anglican Church, a professor of engineering and former vice chancellor of the University of Nigeria succeeded by Bath Okolo. was appointed minister of power by the Nigerian former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on February 4, 2013. Prior to his appointment, Nebo was the vice chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti from 2010 to 2013.
Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba is a Nigerian Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology who served as the 14th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He succeeded Bath Okolo who was the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria. After his tenure, he handed over to the current Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe. Ozumba served as the provost of the college of medicine of the same university between the years 2004 and 2008. The University of Nigeria became the first university in Nigeria to assemble laptops when he was appointed Vice Chancellor and the university opened its first indigenous University Laptop Assembly Complex. The first batch of laptops bearing the Lion brand were released. UNN also founded the Lion Science Park, Nigeria's first university-based science park. A gasification plant was constructed to create synthetic gas from organic solid materials for use in the production of electric power and other uses for the University of Nigeria community. During his tenure also, the University of Nigeria held the first position amongst Nigerian universities in the Webometrics University Ranking for more than three times in Google Scholar citation profiles.
Utazi Godfrey Chukwuka CON is a Nigerian politician. He is the senator representing Enugu North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate. He is a senator of the 8th and 9th Senate of Nigeria. Chukwuka was first elected on 9 June 2015.
Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi was born in Nsukka, Enugu State, in November 1963 and is considered a successful business mogul of the Enugu Northern extraction. owing to the loss of his father in his first year in secondary school, an incidence that forced him to assume the role of pseudo breadwinner to his family consisting of his widowed mother and siblings. Dr. Sam Onyishi, as he is mostly called, attended the Enugu Road Primary School, Nsukka from 1971 to 1976 then was admitted into Bubendorf Grammar School, Adazi, in the present day Anambra State. He contemplated tearing his certificate, since education seemed to mean nothing then given his reality. But an encounter with a kinsman who was 2 years below him in primary school a few years later would make him change his view about education, he returned to school later in life. He got admission to do a Diploma Program at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, between 1993 – 1996 and later, a degree program from 1996 – 1999. He graduated with a Second Class Upper in Social works and Community development. He later got a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship from the Institute for Transformative Thought and Learning in the Doctoral Research Centre of the University of Arizona, Phoenix, in the United States.
The 2019 Enugu State gubernatorial election was held on 9 March 2019. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who won his party (PDP) primaries unopposed, got re-elected for office, Choosing Hon Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo as his deputy.
The 2015 Enugu State gubernatorial election was the 6th gubernatorial election of Enugu State. on April 11, 2015, the People's Democratic Party nominee Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi won the election, defeating Okey Ezea of the All Progressives Congress.
The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Enugu State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Enugu State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
Ossie Enekwe, born Onuora Osmond Enekwechi, was a Nigerian dramatist, poet, novelist, and professor of Theatre Arts. A former vice president of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) as well as the former director of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1998–2004). He helped to establish the University of Nigeria's Dramatic Arts Department. Enekwe was the editor of Okike: The African Journal of New Writing from 1984 to 2010, after being appointed by its founder, Chinua Achebe, who founded it in 1971. When Ossie Enekwe retired in 2010, he handed over the editorship of Okike to Amechi Akwanya.
Florence Onyebuchi Orabueze is a poet, writer and a Nigerian professor of English and literary studies. She was a former director of the Institute of African studies of the institution, the founder of the Grace Uzoma Okonkwo Foundation and a member of Nigerian Academy of Letters.
