Summer Youth Olympics appearances (overview)

Malaysia participated in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore. The Malaysian team consisted of 13 athletes, seven male and six female, who competed in six sports: aquatics (swimming and diving), athletics, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, sailing and weightlifting. The chef-de-mission of the contingent was former national swimmer Alex Lim, who competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. [3]

Diver Pandelela Rinong Pamg became the first Malaysian to win a medal in the Youth Olympics after placing second in the girls' 10m platform event. She later won another silver medal in the girls' 3m springboard event. [4]

Bryan Nickson Lomas is a former Malaysian diver. Lomas was the youngest Malaysian athlete to qualify for 2004 Summer Olympics when he was 14. He became the country's first world junior diving champion after winning gold at the 3 m springboard event in the World Junior Championships held at Belem, Brazil in 2004. He trained under the coaching of Yang Zhuliang. Lomas is named after the footballer Bryan Robson by his father.

Cheong Jun Hoong is a retired Malaysian diver. She won a silver medal in the synchronised 10m platform event with Pandelela Rinong at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, she became Malaysia's first diving world champion after winning the 10m platform event.

Daniel William Henry "Danny" Wong Bego, OLY is a Malaysian swimmer, who specialises in freestyle and butterfly events. He emerged as one of Malaysia's most promising and outstanding swimmers, winning a total of fifteen medals at the Southeast Asian Games, and breaking six national records. He was the first Malaysian swimmer to compete in three different events at a single Olympic Games.

Teams made up of athletes representing different National Olympic Committees (NOCs), called mixed-NOCs teams, participated in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. These teams participated in either events composed entirely of mixed-NOCs teams, or in events which saw the participation of mixed-NOCs teams and non-mixed-NOCs teams. When a mixed-NOCs team won a medal, the Olympic flag was raised rather than a national flag; if a mixed-NOCs team won gold, the Olympic anthem would be played instead of national anthems. A total of 17 events with Mixed NOCs were held.

Malaysia competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018. The chef-de-mission of the contingent was former two-time Olympian archer Cheng Chu Sian. Malaysia won its first gold medal at an Olympic event, having previously won silver and bronze medals.
