The 2001 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 21st Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the fifth time Malaysia host the games, and its first time since 1989. Malaysia previously also hosted the 1965 games, 1971 games and the 1977 games.

KL Sports City Sports complex in Malaysia

The KL Sports City in Malaysia is the largest sports complex in the country. It is located in Bukit Jalil, 20 km south of Kuala Lumpur. Described as the "sports complex in a park", it was the only one of its kind in the country or region when it was fully developed. It was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, on 11 July 1998 ahead of the 1998 Commonwealth Games in which it staged the Games' opening ceremony. The complex was upgraded to KL Sports City in 2017 for the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

2014 Asian Para Games

The 2014 Asian Para Games, also known as the 2nd Asian Para Games, was an Asian disabled multi-sport event held in Incheon, South Korea, from 18 to 24 October 2014, 2 weeks after the end of the 2014 Asian Games. This was the first time South Korea hosted the games. Around 4,500 athletes from 41 countries competed in the games which featured 443 events in 23 sports. The games was opened by the Prime Minister Chung Hong-won at the Incheon Munhak Stadium. The final medal tally was led by China, followed by host South Korea and Japan, while Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Singapore, Syria and Qatar won their first ever Asian Para Games gold medal. 24 world and 121 Asian records were broken during the Games.

Malaysia first competed at the Asian Games in 1954. Malaysia got its first gold medal in 1962 Asian Games, when Mani Jegathesan won the men's 200 metres athletics event on 28 August 1962.

2017 Southeast Asian Games

The 2017 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 29th Southeast Asian Games and commonly known as Kuala Lumpur 2017, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event that took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the sixth time that Malaysia hosted the games and its first time since 2001. Previously, it had also hosted the 1965, 1971, 1977 and 1989 editions of the games. The 2017 edition is most notable for being the first edition to include winter sports.

Malaysia competed in the 2013 Asian Youth Games held in Nanjing, China from 16 to 24 August 2013. Malaysia won a total of 17 medals, including 4 golds, 6 silvers and 7 bronzes. It earned eighth position in the medal table.

The 2017 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 9th ASEAN Para Games, was a Southeast Asian disabled multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 17 days after the 2017 Southeast Asian Games from 17 to 23 September 2017. This was the third time Malaysia host the ASEAN Para Games and its first time since 2009. Previously, Malaysia also hosted the inaugural games in 2001.

The 2001 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 1st ASEAN Para Games, was a Southeast Asian disabled multi-sport event held a month after the 2001 Southeast Asian Games. It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 26 to 29 October 2001. This ASEAN Para Games was the first edition held in history for Southeast Asia countries and also the first edition hosted by Malaysia.

Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli Malaysian Paralympic athlete

Muhammad Ziyad bin Zolkefli is a Paralympic athlete from Malaysia who competes in T20 classification shot put events. He is the current world record holder in his event. Zolkefli represented Malaysia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where he won the bronze medal in the shot put. As well as Paralympic success, Muhammad Ziyad has won both the World Championship and Asian Para Games titles in his sport, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Muhammad Adib bin Zainudin is a Malaysian footballer who plays for Malaysian club Johor Darul Ta'zim II and captains the Malaysia U-23 national team. Adib plays mainly as a centre-back. Adib was promoted as the captain of the Malaysia U-23 national team in 2016 after the former captain Faris Shah Rosli got a long-term injury. He was part of the national team that qualified for the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship that will take place in China.

Thanabalan a/l Nadarajah is a Malaysian professional footballer who plays as forward for Malaysia Super League side Sabah and the Malaysia national team. In 2013, Thanabalan signed five-year contract with Negeri Sembilan and featured in the Negeri Sembilan U-21 and later promoted to the senior team in 2014 and was given shirt number 32. During 2015 season, Thanabalan was allocated the number 33 shirt.

Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom Malaysian cyclist

Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom is a Malaysian racing cyclist. He rode in the men's sprint event at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. He won the 2021 Australian Track National Championship in the keirin event, defeating fellow compatriot Azizulhasni Awang. He had participated in both Sprint and Keirin cycling events during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Malaysia at the 2018 Asian Games Sporting event delegation

Malaysia participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. At the last edition in Incheon, the country placed 14 in the medals tally, with 5 gold medals from squash, sailing, and karate. In 2018 edition, Malaysia was represented by 447 athletes and 140 officials at the Games. Abdul Azim Mohamad Zabidi, the Appeals Committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia was the chief of the delegation.
