Mamas Ramachandran, better known as Mamas, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and caricaturist. [2] He made his directorial debut in 2010 with Paappi Appacha . [3]

Career life

Mamas started his career by assisting veteran directors I V Sasi and duo Rafi Mecartin. Mamas's directorial debut was Paappi Appacha starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan.[ citation needed ] His second directorial venture- Cinema Company starred mainly newcomers selected through audition across Kerala. Mannar Mathai Speaking 2, his third movie was a sequel to Mannar Mathai Speaking directed by duo Siddique-Lal 25 years ago.

Siddique–Lal are a screenwriter and director duo, consisting of Siddique and Lal. They were active together in Malayalam cinema during 1986–1995. They were initially assistant directors to director Fazil. Particularly known for making films in the comedy genre, the films that came out of the partnership include Ramji Rao Speaking (1989), In Harihar Nagar (1990), Godfather (1991), Vietnam Colony (1992), and Kabooliwala (1993). All of these films were some of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema and many of them have a cult following in Kerala. The duo broke off in 1993, but later continued their association by Lal producing some of the films directed by Siddique. The duo reunited again after two decades in 2016 to co-write the film King Liar which was directed by Lal.

Ramji Rao Speaking is a 1989 Indian Malayalam-language comedy-thriller film written and directed by the duo Siddique–Lal and produced by Fazil, Swargachitra Appachan, and Ousepachan Vaalakuzhy. It stars Sai Kumar, Mukesh, Innocent, Vijayaraghavan, Devan, Rekha, with Sankaradi, Sukumari, Kunchan and Mamukkoya in other supporting roles. The film deals with social factors affecting Kerala including unemployment during the 1980s, and went on to achieve a cult classic status.

Paappi Appacha is a 2010 Indian Malayalam-language action comedy film written and directed by Mamas, starring Dileep and Innocent. The film released in April 2010 in Kerala on more than 70 screens. The film also marked the directorial debut of Mamas K. Chandran. Leading characters in the film have a similar life style of the comedians in the song "Paappi Appacha" in the 1972 Prem Nazir starrer Mayiladumkunnu.

Actors Innocent, Mukesh, Sai Kumar, Biju Menon, Vijayaraghavan and Janardhanan reprised their roles; while Aparna Gopinath, Shammi Thilakan and a few others are also included in the cast. The film features original music & background score composed by Rahul Raj.

He is also noted for his role as Dasan Maash in the 2010 Malayalam film Paappi Appacha.
