Mandai Bus Depot is a future bus depot currently under construction along Mandai Road. The depot is integrated within Mandai Depot which supports the operations of the Thomson-East Coast Line. [1] It was scheduled to be completed by 2019, together with the train depot. [1] The depot is intended to accommodate the growing bus fleet over the next few years, under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme and Bus Contracting Model.

It will be equipped with facilities for daily bus operations, bus repair/maintenance, bus parking, offices, rest area for bus drivers and canteen.

History

Contract CT201 for the construction of Mandai MRT and Bus Depot was awarded to Jurong Primewide Pte Ltd of Singapore, at a contract sum of S$329 million.

When completed, the bus depot will be handed over to the successful tenderer of the Sembawang–Yishun Bus Package, consisting of 25 SMRT Buses services and 1 Tower Transit Singapore service. The depot will be handed over to the new Public Transport Operator for outfitting and preparatory works before operations can commence. [2]

On 30 September 2020, Tower Transit Singapore was awarded the package, and the depot will be handed over to Tower Transit in October 2020 before operation commences in September 2021. [3]

Bus transport forms a significant part of public transport in Singapore, with over 4.0 million rides taken per day on average as of 2018. The newest bus operator, Go-Ahead Singapore started operation since 4 September 2016. There are also around 5,800 buses currently in operation.

SMRT Buses

SMRT Buses is a bus operator in Singapore. A subsidiary of SMRT Corporation, it traded as Trans Island Bus Services until 10 May 2004.

The history of the Mass Rapid Transit system of Singapore commenced with its planning in the 1960s, which finally led to its opening in 1987 with the launch of the 6 km section of the North South Line from Yio Chu Kang to Toa Payoh. It now has six lines in operation with a total combined route length of 202.4 km (125.8 mi) and 122 stations. The Light Rail Transit which opened in 1999 acts as a feeder service to the MRT network.

Sembawang Bus Interchange is a bus interchange located in Sembawang, Singapore. Opened on 20 November 2005, it provides hassle-free transfer to the nearby Sembawang MRT station.

Located next to Sengkang MRT/LRT station, it is the second bus interchange in Singapore to be air conditioned. It was opened on 18 January 2003.

Yishun Bus Interchange

Yishun Bus Interchange is located in northern Singapore, integrated with Northpoint City. The interchange is part of the Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), which opened on 8 September 2019. Before this interchange, the original bus interchange was in operation from 23 August 1987 to 13 March 2015. Operations were transferred to a temporary site on 14 March 2015 for the construction of Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), and eventually closed on 7 September 2019.

Thomson–East Coast MRT line Mass Rapid Transit line (MRT) in Singapore

The Thomson–East Coast line (TEL) is a medium-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line under development in Singapore. Coloured brown on the rail map, it is fully underground serving 32 stations over 43 kilometres (27 mi) in length, and will be among the world's longest driverless rapid transit lines. It will run along a combined north–south and east–west corridor, starting in the north at Woodlands town, passing through Upper Thomson and the towns of Ang Mo Kio and Bishan, before heading south to Orchard and Marina Bay, then running eastwards along the east coast through Kallang, Marine Parade and Bedok South, before ending at Upper East Coast.

Bus contracting model of Singapore

The Bus Contracting Model (BCM), formerly known as the Government Contracting Model, is a contracting model introduced by the Land Transport Authority in 2014 for public buses in Singapore, implemented in 2016. The BCM is based on the Transperth model in Perth, Western Australia with quality incentive elements from London Buses. Under the BCM, local and overseas bus operators bid for contracts to operate public bus services on behalf of LTA. The LTA has also adopted a new unified lush green livery and logo for all buses, and now procures and owns the bus fleet for all public bus services in Singapore.

The East Coast Integrated Depot, is a future integrated bus and train depot located in Changi that will serve the East West Line, Downtown Line and Thomson-East Coast Line of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in Singapore.
