Mandeep Jangra (born 19 May 1993) is former Indian amateur boxer and current professional. He won the silver medal at the 2013 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in the welterweight category. He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the same category and won the silver medal. [2] He was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2015.

Jangra is coached by Indian boxer Akhil Kumar and supported by Anglian Medal Hunt Company. [3] After his third professional bout he was signed to be coached by Roy Jones Jr. [4]

Mandeep Jangra has achieved a few major achievements other than Arjuna Award & Silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth games. Notable results include a silver medal at the 2013 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships and a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian games.

Professional career

Jangra made his professional debut on 7 May 2021, winning a four round unanimous decision over Argentina's Luciano Ramos at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee. [5]

Mohammed Ali Qamar is a boxer from Kolkata, India. He was the first Indian to win a gold medal in the discipline of boxing in the Commonwealth Games at the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester. Born into the Ghettoes of Kidderpore in Kolkata, Qamar was inducted into boxing at an early age by his father at the Kidderpore School of Physical Education, and was coached by Cheena Bhai. Qamar became the Inter-district champion in the state of West Bengal in 1991. He won the Light Flyweight category at the national sub-junior levels from 1992 to 1996. Qamar had a strong showing in the 1999 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Houston, reaching the quarter finals before losing to Ron Siler of the United States. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, Qamar upset the home favorite Darren Langley 27-25 in the final, outscoring Langley 10-3 and surviving a standing count in the dramatic final round after trailing by 5 points at the beginning of the fourth and last round. Qamar's career was plagued by injury and he did not win a major competition again, losing in the quarterfinals at the 2002 Asian Games at Pusan. Qamar's neighborhood of Kidderpore is the hub of Women's boxing in India, who claim Qamar as one of their inspirations.

Devendro Singh Laishram, also known as Devendro Singh or Devendro Laishram, is an Indian boxer from Imphal West district, Manipur who competes in the light-flyweight division. Devendro represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics and lost out in the quarter-finals in a tough bout against the eventual bronze medalist Irish boxer Paddy Barnes. Devendro qualified for the Olympics after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. Pinki Rani Jangra is a flyweight Indian boxer from Hisar, Haryana and a four time national champion. She won bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She won gold medal at the President's Cup International Boxing in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia, in 2015. She won gold medals at the 2011 National Games of India and the 2012 and 2014 National championships in the flyweight (51kgs) division. Lovlina Borgohain is an Indian boxer. She won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in the women's welterweight event, becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. She won gold medal at 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships and bronze medals at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. Borgohain is the first female athlete and the second boxer from Assam to represent the state in the Olympics. In 2020, she became the sixth person from Assam to receive Arjuna Award.
