Valenzuela, officially the City of Valenzuela, is a highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 714,978 people.

In 1990, it moved to its current location on the campus of the University of New Orleans (UNO) in the Lake Terrace/Lake Oaks neighborhood of Orleans Parish, near Lake Pontchartrain. The school was damaged by several feet of flood water due to Hurricane Katrina in the fall of 2005, and efforts to reopen the school were covered by nationwide news agencies. General Tiburcio de Leon National High School, also known as Gen. T. de Leon National High School or GTDNHS is a public national high school in Valenzuela, Philippines. It is under the supervision of the Division and City Schools - Valenzuela. Founded in 1969, the school had first served as an annex to Valenzuela Municipal High School. Since 1997, it had become a fully independent high school in Valenzuela. Its location has been moved several times, from Gen. T. de Leon Elementary School, to Tañada Subdivision to its present location in Mercado St. near T. Bugallion Bridge.
Valenzuela's 2nd congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the city of Valenzuela. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 2001. The district was created following Valenzuela's conversion into a highly urbanised city through Republic Act No. 8526 on February 14, 1998. It consists of nine barangays in the southern part of the city, namely Bagbaguin, General T. de Leon, Karuhatan, Mapulang Lupa, Marulas, Maysan, Parada, Paso de Blas, and Ugong. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Eric M. Martinez of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).
