Mar Gregorios College Punnapra is an educational institution in Punnapra, Alappuzha. The college is affiliated to University of Kerala and owned and managed by the Archdiocese of Changanacherry. The college offers B.A, B.Com and B.CA courses.

The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, or Church of Malabar Syrian Catholics, is an Eastern Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church based in Kerala, India. It is an autonomous particular church in full communion with the pope and the worldwide Catholic Church, with self-governance under the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches (CCEO). The Church is headed by the Metropolitan and Gate of all India Major Archbishop George Cardinal Alencherry. The Syro-Malabar Synod of Bishops canonically convoked and presided over by the Major Archbishop constitutes the supreme authority of the Church. Officially known as the Syro-Malabar Church, Syro-Malabar is a prefix coined from the words Syriac as the church employs the East Syriac Rite liturgy, and Malabar which is the historical name for modern Kerala. The name has been in usage in official Vatican documents since the nineteenth century.

Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Changanassery

The Marthoma Nazrani Archeparchy (Archdiocese) of Changanassery is a Syro-Malabar Catholic archeparchy with an area of 24,595 km2 comprising the districts of Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, and also Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the largest Catholic dioceses in India. Mar Joseph Perumthottam is the current Metropolitan Archbishop, serving since 2007. Mar Thomas Tharayil has been the auxiliary bishop since 2017. And Mar Joseph Powathil is the bishop emeritus, having served from 1985 to 2007. Suffragan eparchies of the Changanassery archeparchy includes Palai, Kanjirappally, and Thuckalay.

Kurumpanadam Forane Church in Kerala, India is on a hillock about 6 km east of Changanacherry and 800 metres north of Perumpanachy Junction. This area was a part of Changanacherry Parish in ancient days and later from 1835 to 1837 under the jurisdiction of Thuruthi Parish. The Mooppachanmar who had visited Kurumbanadu to select aspirants for priesthood selected Chorikkavungal Zackarias and Mukkattukunnel Thomas from this area. They requested the Catholics of this area to erect a church. Following their request, 93 Catholic families who had inhabited Kurumbanadu erected the first Catholic Church here on 13 June 1837. It had stood on the north of the present church. As the church was not spacious enough, the construction of a new church was started in 1844. Fr. Philipose Chalackal, a parishioner of Thuruthi, was the vicar of Kurumpanadu. The main role in the construction of the new church was played by Fathers Thomas Mukkattukunnel and Zackarias Chorickavunkal.

Punnapra Village in Kerala, India

Punnapra is a village in Alappuzha district of Kerala, India. It is a coastal area of the Arabian Sea and lies west to Kuttanad, popularly known as The rice bowl of Kerala.

Punnapra South is a grama panchayat and part of Punnapra village, in Alappuzha district, Kerala, India. It was created by dividing the erstwhile Punnapra panchayath into north and south. The placename is much famous for the 1946 Punnapra-Vayalar revolt. Nearness to beach and presence of paddy fields makes here a place with rarest geography and hence one of the good places for sightseeing. The NH-47 and Ernakulam-Kayamkulam coastal railway line passes through Punnapra. There is a railway station at Punnapra.

Holy Family Church Mannila is a Catholic church located in Kottayam district in the Indian state of Kerala, about 10 kilometers away from Changanacherry. The Church is part of the Archdiocese of Changanacherry. It was established in 1927. That year a cross was erected on Mannilakunnu - മാന്നിലക്കുന്ന് by Fr. Karingida Thomma with the help of members of Marthoma Dasa Sangham, a Christian youth organisation. This was the beginning of The Holy Family Church Mannila.

Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, also known as S.H., Changanacherry 9°26'44.4588N 76°33'3.888E is a pioneer among the recognized English Medium Schools in the unaided sector in Kerala, India. The school was founded by Fr. K.J. Antony Kaithara, a member of the Sacred Heart Institution, under the patronage of Mar Mathew Kavukattu, the late Archbishop of Changanacherry in 1964. The ICSE wing started in 2002, and it was raised to a junior college in 2008. The manager of the school is Rev. Fr Joseph Nedumparampil, Mr.P.A. Kuriachan is the Principal and Mr. James Antony serves as the administrative officer. Fr. O.J. Varghese was the principal for many decades. The motto of the school is Learn, Labour, Serve. It was mentioned in the Malayalam movie, Varnapakittu. The civil servant, Raju Narayana Swamy studied at S.H.

St. Thomas Cathedral, Irinjalakuda Church in Kerala, India

St Thomas Cathedral is the Syro Malabar Catholic cathedral of the eparchy of Irinjalakuda in India got its present existence under the nomenclature and the Canonical Status as Cathedral in the Wake of the Origin of the New Eparchy. This was effected by the amalgamation of the two independent and important parishes of the locality, namely, St. George’s Forane Church and St. Mary’s church, which amicably situated side by side for about a century.

George Alencherry Indian prelate of the Catholic Church

Maran Mar George Cardinal Alencherry is an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church. He is the current Major Archbishop (Head) of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church and is also Cardinal and member of the College of Cardinals. As Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, he holds the title of Successor of St. Thomas and Metropolitan of All India. With this position, he also holds the position of Major Metropolitan Archbishop of the Church as well. The title is essentially equivalent to that of Patriarch. He was elected by the Holy Synod of the Syro-Malabar Church in 2011 to succeed Mar Varkey Vithayathil. He was created a cardinal of the Catholic Church on 18 February 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. He was the first bishop of Thuckalay from 1997 to 2011.

Lourdes Public School and Junior College was established in 1996 by Lourdes Educational Trust on behalf of Lourdes Forane Church which belongs to the Archdiocese of Changanacherry. The archbishop of Changanacherry is its patron and the vicar of Lourdes Forane Church is the manager. It is an English medium co-educational institution recognized by Central Board of Secondary Education. The school is located in the heart of Kottayam town, opposite the District Headquarters in the state of Kerala, India. The school was awarded minority status by the National Minorities Commission in 2012. Lourdes Public School was ranked 1st among the Co-ed day schools in Kottayam, 2nd in Kerala and 99th in India in the Indian Day Schools League Table by Education World for 2013.

Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Palai

The Syro-Malabar Eparchy (Diocese) of Palai is a Syro-Malabar Catholic eparchy with an area of 1166 km2 comprising the Meenachil taluk and a few villages of the neighbouring taluks in Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts of central Kerala in South India. The faithful of this eparchy, numbering 326,742, belong to the ancient St. Thomas Christian community. The seat of the bishop is the St. Thomas Cathedral based in the town of Palai. The current bishop is Mar Joseph Kallarangatt, serving since March 2004. Mar Jacob Muricken has been auxiliary bishop since 2012. Pope Pius XII established the diocese bifurcating the eparchy of Changanacherry and out of the territory covered by the then foranes of Palai, Muttuchira, Kuravilangad, Anakkallu and Ramapuram, on July 25, 1950. The diocese was erected as a suffragan of the archdiocese of Ernakulam. The then apostolic nuncio to India, Archbishop Leo P. Kierkels, installed Mar Sebastian Vayalil as the first bishop of the new eparchy. Epharchy of Changanacherry was elevated to the status of archeparchy and constituted the new ecclesiastical province of Changanacherry on Aug. 22, 1956. Thus, the diocese of Palai became one of its suffragans.
