Marcel Niederer (born 9 September 1960 in St. Gallen) is a Swiss entrepreneur and former ice hockey player. He mainly became famous by his sports career and the investment in Belinda Bencic.
He is a host couple’s son who was born in St. Gallen and spent his childhood in Uzwil. Soon he started helping out his parents in their hotel/restaurant. At the age of eight, Marcel Niederer joined the junior-teams of the Ice-Hockey-Team in Uzwil. At the age of 17, he made his debut in the first team of the EHC Uzwil, which then was playing in the National League B. Two years later he made the final leap into the Top Swiss Hockey League (National League A) team of Lausanne HC. Altogether, Marcel Niederer has been playing seven years in the National League A (Lausanne HC, ZSC Lions and EHC Biel). He became Swiss Champion twice (1981 and 1983 with EHC Biel). Marcel Niederer let his career fade away in the National League B and 1st League with EHC Uzwil. [1]
In parallel with his sports career, Marcel Niederer received a commercial apprenticeship as a trustee and afterwards, he finished his studies in marketing and public administration at the university of applied sciences in Olten.
After his studies and his sports career, Marcel Niederer founded a trust company, which offered fiduciary services. Additionally, he was buying old buildings in order to renovate them. Since 1991, Marcel Niederer displaced his activities to Eastern Germany and Russia. A number of years following, Marcel Niederer was selling bananas and mandarins in Eastern Germany and subsequently instant coffee (Nescafé) and fashion (leather goods and clothing from MCM Modern Creation Munich) in Russia. Until 2021 Marcel Niederer was doing business in Russia. Since 2003 Marcel Niederer invested in Belinda Bencic’s tennis career. He was also her manager. Since 2006, Marcel Niederer operates in building new apartment blocks in Eastern Switzerland. [2] 2020 Marcel Niederer bought the land of the former Posthotel in Arosa and built the new suites hotel Postresidenz am See. [3] The hotel is planned to open in November 2023.
Niederer is married with three daughters. His youngest child, Christina Niederer, is a former figure skater and dancer. After finishing her bachelor and master studies at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), Christina Niederer worked for several years in banking before joining the family business in the real estate and hospitality industry. Marcel Niederer lives with his family in Switzerland.
The National League (NL) is a professional ice hockey league in Switzerland and is the top tier of the Swiss league system. Prior to the 2017–18 season, the league was known as National League A. During the 2018–19 season, the league had an average of 6,949 spectators per game which is the highest among European leagues. The capital city's club SC Bern has been ranked first of all European clubs for 18 seasons and had an average attendance of 16,290 after the regular season. The ZSC Lions are another club in the top ten of European ice hockey attendance, ranking seventh with 9,694 spectators.
The Swiss League is the second tier of the main professional ice hockey league in Switzerland, behind the National League. The winners of the league each season plays a best-of-seven series against the bottom team of the NL, and if they win, they are promoted, while the National League team is relegated to the Swiss League.

Jan Alston is a Canadian-Swiss ice hockey executive, coach and former professional ice hockey centre. He was granted Swiss citizenship in 2002.
Luca Cunti is a Swiss professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for EHC Biel in the National League (NL). He previously played for the SCL Tigers, the ZSC Lions, EHC Kloten and HC Lugano. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Jean-Jacques Aeschlimann is a retired Swiss ice hockey player. He played for several teams in the National League A (NLA), including EHC Biel, HC Lugano, HC Fribourg-Gottéron and Lausanne HC. He also played for the Switzerland men's national ice hockey team on several occasions.
The 1953–54 Nationalliga A season was the 16th season of the Nationalliga A, the top level of ice hockey in Switzerland. Eight teams participated in the league, and EHC Arosa won the championship.

Petteri Lindbohm is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for Frölunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He has previously played with Lausanne HC and EHC Biel of the National League (NL), Jokerit of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), and with the St. Louis Blues and Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Blues selected him in the 6th round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2013–14 National League A season is the seventh ice hockey season of Switzerland's top hockey league, the National League A. Overall, it is the 76th season of Swiss professional hockey. It was won by ZSC Lions after beating Kloten Flyers 4-0 in the playoff final.

Heinz Ehlers is a Danish professional ice hockey coach and former ice hockey player. He was most recently the head coach of the SCL Tigers in the National League A (NLA) and the Denmark national hockey team.
John Fust is a Canadian-Swiss professional ice hockey coach and a former professional ice hockey player.
The 2016–17 National League A season was the tenth ice hockey season of Switzerland's top hockey league, the National League A. Overall, it was the 79th season of Swiss professional hockey.
Christina Viktoria Niederer is a former Swiss figure skater and dancer with Russian roots. She is the 2007 and 2008 Swiss Junior Champion, the Bronze Medallist of 2009 and the Vice Swiss Champion of 2010 in Latin Dance and Ballroom Dancing. Christina Niederer was a member of the Swiss Olympic Team in Figure Skating. Furthermore, she has the Russian citizenship. After her sports career, Christina Niederer studied business administration in her bachelor's degree and business innovation in her master's degree and graduated from the University of St. Gallen (HSG). After having worked for several years in private banking in Zurich, Christina Niederer joined the family business in the real estate and hospitality industry in the 2022.
The 2017–18 National League season is the 80th season of Swiss professional ice hockey and the first season as the National League (NL). The change from National League A to National League was made at the end of the 2016–17 season.
Guillaume Maillard is a Swiss professional ice hockey centre who is currently playing with Genève-Servette HC of the National League (NL). He previously played with Lausanne HC.
Damien Riat is a Swiss professional ice hockey winger who is currently playing with Lausanne HC of the National League (NL). Riat was drafted 117th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Deniss Smirnovs is a Latvian professional ice hockey centre for EHC Kloten of the National League (NL). He previously played with Genève-Servette HC and won a NL title with the team in 2023.
