Mareergur (Somali : Mareer Gur, also known as Merergur) is a town located in the Galguduud region of Galmudug state of Somalia. [1] [2]

Geography

Mareergur is 30 km from Dhusamareb the capital city of Galmudug state of Somalia and the administrative capital of the Galguduud region.

Demographics

Mareergur has a population of around 50.00,inhabitants. It is primarily inhabited by people from the Somali ethnic group, with the Ayr sub-clan of Habar Gidir well-represented.

Climate

Mareergur has a hot arid climate. The weather is generally hot, sunny and dry during the dry seasons but during the rainy seasons the town is green and cold. As other Somali regions, it has two rainy seasons and two dry seasons, each of three months.

Economy

Mareergur's economy depends mostly on livestock. There are a few livestock markets in the town where people sell and buy livestock from each other. [3] Mareergur's economy also depends on exports of livestock. [4]

Shabelle is one of nine Zones of the Somali Region of Ethiopia. It was previously known as Gode, so named after its largest city, Gode. Following the outbreak of the war on December 21, 2006; by December 24, direct Ethiopian intervention in the conflict in support of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) was no longer denied by the Ethiopian government. The Eritrean government denied any involvement despite Ethiopian claims to the contrary.

The Battle of Bandiradley in Somalia began on December 23, 2006, when Puntland and Ethiopian forces, along with faction leader Abdi Qeybdid, fought Islamic Courts Union (ICU) militants defending Bandiradley. The fighting pushed the Islamists out of Bandiradley and over the border south into Adado district, Galgadud region, by December 25.
