Maria Kong was founded in 2009 in Tel Aviv by Anderson Braz, Talia Landa, Leo Lerus and Yaara Moses, all former dancers of Batsheva Dance Company. [2] Their debut performance, Fling, premiered in 2010 at Nachmani Theatre in Tel Aviv, incorporating dance with technological experiments.
In 2011 and again in 2012, Maria Kong performed at the Dancing Poznan Festival in Poznan, Poland. In 2012 the group also performed at the Drupa Exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany. The group premiered a new dance, Open Source, choreographed by Landa. [3]
In 2013 they performed at the Open Stage Festival in Tarnow, Poland and the Beijing Dance Festival in Beijing, China. [4]
In 2014 Maria Kong performed at the Delhi International Arts Festival in India; [5] the Dance Ga Mitai 16 Festival in Tokyo, Japan; the International Festival for Alternative Theatre in Novisad, Serbia; the Danza Nueva - Festival International De Lima, in Lima, Peru; the SIBIU International Theatre Festival, in Sibiu, Romania; performances in Bialystok, Poland and Busan, South Korea.
The company continued touring in 2015, visiting Vancouver, British Columbia. [6] [7] The dancers performed at the Vancouver International Dance Festival [8] and the Chutzpah Festival. [9] [10] The group returned to tour in Canada in 2016 with the digital/dance show Open Source, including shows in Montreal [11] and Vancouver. [12]
In one of their shows, Open Source, they used digital gloves on stage, which were designed by group member Ori Ben-Shabat and further developed with the help of open source programming. It allowed the performers to create the beat and special sound effects as they moved. [13]

The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets is a self-billed "musical fable" in the avant-garde tradition created through the collaboration of theatre director Robert Wilson, musician Tom Waits, and writer William S. Burroughs. Wilson, in the original production, was largely responsible for the design and direction. Burroughs wrote the book, while Waits wrote the music and most of the lyrics. Det Norske Teatret in Oslo staged a Norwegian (Nynorsk) version in 1998, with Lasse Kolsrud as Pegleg. Only the dialogue was translated by the dramaturg and key collaborator of the entire creative process, Wolfgang Wiens; the songs were performed in English.

Robert Cohen is an American university professor, theatre director, playwright, and drama critic. Now a Claire Trevor Professor emeritus after 50 years teaching at the University of California, Irvine since 1965, he continues to write, and has published many books on theatre, along with articles, dramatic anthologies and many plays, and has conducted advanced teaching residencies in numerous countries and much of the United States. Hamuchtar, Gilad Philip Ben-David, b. 1971, is a singer and cabaret artist who began his career in Tel Aviv in the late 1980s. He has also played various films most notably “Amazing Grace” by the late director Amos Guttman, as well as directing his own films and theatre plays. His musical style incorporates cabaret, mizrahi music, Yemenite music and electronica.
Simone Orlando is a Canadian ballet dancer and choreographer born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Orlando received her early dance training at the Carisbrooke School of Dance, the Vancouver Academy of Dance, and the Goh Ballet Academy. She completed her training at the National Ballet School in Toronto and subsequently joined the National Ballet of Canada in 1989 under the direction of Reid Anderson where she danced a wide range of repertoire from the ballets of John Cranko and Kenneth MacMillan to those of George Balanchine and Glenn Tetley. In 1995, Robert Desrosiers invited her to join Desrosiers Dance Theatre, where she originated roles in several new productions and toured to Brazil and Aruba. In 1996, Orlando joined Ballet British Columbia under the direction of John Alleyne where she danced for twelve years as principal artist, joining the reorganised Ballet BC as Artist in Residence for 2009–10. She has performed in theatres and festivals around the world including The Kennedy Centre, The Joyce Theatre, The Bayerische Staatsoper, The Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Cervantino Festival, Canada Dance Festival, and Ballet Expo Seoul. While dancing with Ballet BC, Orlando was prominently featured in new creations by John Alleyne, garnering accolades for her performances as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Puck in The Faerie Queen, Fate in Carmina Burana, and the Elder in The Rite of Spring. She has also created roles with James Kudelka, Crystal Pite, Dominique Dumais, Mikko Nissenen, and Jean Grand-Maitre and has been featured in the works of William Forsythe, Paul Taylor, Nicolo Fonte, Jiri Kylian, Martha Graham, and Twyla Tharp, among others. Orlando also taught and set repertoire on the dancers of Ballet BC and the pre-professionals in the Ballet BC Mentor Program.

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival is one of the most important theatre and performing arts festivals in the world, and the third biggest, after the Festival d'Avignon and the Edinburgh International Festival. FITS takes place in the city of Sibiu, Romania, in June every year and lasts for ten days. She was awarded the 43rd National Film Awards for Best Choreography for Yugant in 1995 and became, in 2006, the first dancer of foreign origin to be conferred the Padma Shri for her contributions to Odissi.
Christina Maria Rieder, better known by their stage name Rykka, is a Swiss-Canadian singer and songwriter from Vancouver, British Columbia. Their songs have been featured on TV, and they have been nominated for several music awards both in British Columbia, and across Canada. On May 12, 2016, they represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm with the song "The Last of Our Kind". They sang in the second semi-final of the event.
