Roslindale is a primarily residential neighborhood of Boston,Massachusetts,bordered by Jamaica Plain,Hyde Park,West Roxbury and Mattapan. It is served by an MBTA Commuter Rail line,several MBTA bus lines and the MBTA Orange Line in nearby Jamaica Plain. Roslindale has its own branch of the Boston Public Library,the neighborhood is covered by Boston Police District E-5 in West Roxbury,Boston EMS Ambulance 17 is stationed in Roslindale,and the Boston Fire Department has a station on Canterbury Street which houses Ladder 16,Engine 53 &District Chief 12. Roslindale's original Engine Company 45,was deactivated on April 10,1981,due to budget cuts. Roslindale was once called the "garden suburb" of Boston. The portion of the Arnold Arboretum south of Bussey Street is located in Roslindale.
The 2006 Massachusetts gubernatorial election was held on November 7,2006. The incumbent Republican governor,Mitt Romney,chose not to seek a second term. Polls had been mixed prior to Romney's announcement,with one poll showing Romney slightly leading Democrat Attorney General Tom Reilly and other polls showing Reilly,who was then the Democratic frontrunner,in the lead.

Marie P. St. Fleur is a Haitian American politician and lawyer. former Massachusetts State Representative who represented the Fifth Suffolk district from 1999-2011. Her district consisted of parts of the Boston neighborhoods Dorchester and Roxbury. She is the first Haitian-American to hold public office in Massachusetts. Representative St. Fleur was one of the most active supporters of John Kerry's presidential bid,often traveling to Florida to do outreach on his behalf. Representative St. Fleur was appointed Vice-Chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee by House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi,a leadership position that has tremendous influence in the budget process. On January 30,2006 Thomas F. Reilly,candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor,selected St. Fleur as his running mate. Candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately through the primary,then are joined as a single ticket for the election. The following day she withdrew after The Boston Globe reported that she was delinquent in tax debts and owed over $40,000 in student loans.

A non-partisan preliminary election was held on Tuesday,September 24,2013. 12 candidates made the ballot to replace Menino,with state representative Marty Walsh and city councilor John R. Connolly advancing to the general election. Walsh was elected to his first term,defeating Connolly by 3% of the vote,and was inaugurated on Monday,January 6,2014.

Mary Patricia Cunniff Collins is an American who was the First Lady of Boston from 1960 until 1968 during the mayoral tenure of her husband John F. Collins. Collins was considered an active municipal first lady. Collins' activities during her husband's mayoralty included serving a chairwoman of March of Dimes and on the boards of Faulkner Hospital and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. Collins was also regarded as a key figure in her husband's political campaigns.
