Marian Walsh (born July 20,1954) is an American author,consultant,lawyer and former politician. She is a former State Senator in the Massachusetts Senate where she served nine terms,and a former member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives where she served two terms. [2] She was the first woman to serve in the Massachusetts State House and the State Senate from her district. [3] Walsh began her own consulting and coaching firm upon leaving public office. She also authored Run,a book about running for political office as well as started a campaign school at the Kennedy Library. [2]
Walsh was born in Roslindale section of Boston,Massachusetts. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and Newton College of the Sacred Heart with a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies. [4] She went on to earn a Master's degree in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and earned a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. [4]
Walsh is the former Chief Administrator at the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. [5] During her time at the district attorney's office she established the Victim/Witness Assistance Program. [6] She also established the Homicide Response Team and the Organized Crime Division. [6] She was later appointed Assistant Director of Governmental Relations for the Massachusetts Medical Society where she served as a lobbyist. [7]
Walsh had a 22-year career in politics,beginning with her first election in 1988 when she was voted in as a member of the Massachusetts State House. [8] She served the 10th Suffolk District in the House of Representatives between 1988 and 1992. During her political career,she helped to pass notable legislation including an amendment to increase education funding which directly affected Norfolk County Agricultural High School. [8] She voted for gay civil marriage in March 2004 and also established jail diversion programs. [8] [2] During her career,she was also attributed with bringing back the Truman Rally,an election eve political rally in West Roxbury. [9] She was also the first state lawmaker to call for Cardinal Bernard Law to step down amid the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic archdiocese of Boston in 2002. [10] She also pushed for reform of the Big Dig transportation project in Boston. [11]
Walsh was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate in 1992. [6] During her career in the Senate,she served in numerous positions including as Senate Chairman of the Joint Legislative Committees on Taxation and the Committee on Housing and Urban Development. [3] Other departments include Banks and Banking,Ways and Means,Public Service,Education,and Criminal Justice. [3] She was appointed as assistant majority leader in 2003,and again in 2007 for the 2007-2008 legislative term. [3]
Walsh did not run for re-election when her term was up in 2010. [12] She began her own consulting firm and also began teaching at Northeastern University. [2] Part of her consultancy includes the launching of the American Campaign School and Leadership Camp. [2] She also published Run:Your Personal Guide to Winning Public Office,a book about running for office.
Walsh was named one of Boston's 100 Most Powerful Women by Boston Magazine in 2003. [13] She has also been named Legislator of the Year by various groups including the Environmental League of Massachusetts, [14] the State Police Association,the YMCA,the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern Massachusetts,and the ALS Society of Massachusetts. She was named one of Boston's Ten Most Outstanding Young Leaders by Boston Jaycees in 1990 and was awarded the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus Abigail Adams Awards Recognition for Service in 2010. Roslindale is a primarily residential neighborhood of Boston,Massachusetts,bordered by Jamaica Plain,Hyde Park,West Roxbury and Mattapan. It is served by an MBTA Commuter Rail line,several MBTA bus lines and the MBTA Orange Line in nearby Jamaica Plain. Roslindale has its own branch of the Boston Public Library,the neighborhood is covered by Boston Police District E-5 in West Roxbury,Boston EMS Ambulance 17 is stationed in Roslindale,and the Boston Fire Department has a station on Canterbury Street which houses Ladder 16,Engine 53 &District Chief 12. Roslindale's original Engine Company 45,was deactivated on April 10,1981,due to budget cuts. Roslindale was once called the "garden suburb" of Boston. The portion of the Arnold Arboretum south of Bussey Street is located in Roslindale.
The 2006 Massachusetts gubernatorial election was held on November 7,2006. The incumbent Republican governor,Mitt Romney,chose not to seek a second term. Polls had been mixed prior to Romney's announcement,with one poll showing Romney slightly leading Democrat Attorney General Tom Reilly and other polls showing Reilly,who was then the Democratic frontrunner,in the lead.

Marie P. St. Fleur is a Haitian American politician and lawyer. former Massachusetts State Representative who represented the Fifth Suffolk district from 1999-2011. Her district consisted of parts of the Boston neighborhoods Dorchester and Roxbury. She is the first Haitian-American to hold public office in Massachusetts. Representative St. Fleur was one of the most active supporters of John Kerry's presidential bid,often traveling to Florida to do outreach on his behalf. Representative St. Fleur was appointed Vice-Chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee by House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi,a leadership position that has tremendous influence in the budget process. On January 30,2006 Thomas F. Reilly,candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor,selected St. Fleur as his running mate. Candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately through the primary,then are joined as a single ticket for the election. The following day she withdrew after The Boston Globe reported that she was delinquent in tax debts and owed over $40,000 in student loans.
Linda Dorcena Forry is a former Democratic member of the Massachusetts Senate,who represented the 1st Suffolk district from June 2013 - January 2018. She previously represented the 12th Suffolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives after winning a special election in April 2005. Haitian-American,Dorcena Forry,is the former House Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business.

Matthew Joseph O'Malley is an American politician and businessman who served as president of the Boston City Council in 2021. The 2013 Boston mayoral election occurred on Tuesday,November 5,2013. Incumbent mayor Thomas Menino had declined to run for re-election to a sixth term. A non-partisan preliminary election was held on Tuesday,September 24,2013. 12 candidates made the ballot to replace Menino,with state representative Marty Walsh and city councilor John R. Connolly advancing to the general election. Walsh was elected to his first term,defeating Connolly by 3% of the vote,and was inaugurated on Monday,January 6,2014.

Andrea Joy Campbell is an American lawyer and politician who is the Attorney General-elect of Massachusetts. She is also a former member of the Boston City Council. A member of the Democratic Party,she was first elected to the council in November 2015 and assumed office in January 2016. She served as president of the council from January 2018 until January 2020.

Her district comprises parts of the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston. She is a member of the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus.
Rachael Splaine Rollins is an American lawyer and politician who is the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. Rollins was formerly Suffolk County District Attorney in Massachusetts,which includes the municipalities of Boston,Chelsea,Revere,and Winthrop. Rollins was the first woman to hold the office of Suffolk County D.A. and the first woman of color to serve as a Massachusetts D.A.
The 2021 Boston mayoral election was held on Tuesday,November 2,2021,to elect the mayor of Boston,Massachusetts. Incumbent mayor Marty Walsh was eligible to seek a third term. However,he resigned as mayor on March 22,2021,after being confirmed as Secretary of Labor in the Cabinet of Joe Biden.
Massachusetts House of Representatives' 14th Suffolk district in the United States is one of 160 legislative districts included in the lower house of the Massachusetts General Court. It covers parts of Boston in Suffolk County. Democrat Angelo M. Scaccia has represented the district since 1995. Mary Patricia Cunniff Collins is an American who was the First Lady of Boston from 1960 until 1968 during the mayoral tenure of her husband John F. Collins. Collins was considered an active municipal first lady. Collins' activities during her husband's mayoralty included serving a chairwoman of March of Dimes and on the boards of Faulkner Hospital and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. Collins was also regarded as a key figure in her husband's political campaigns.
