Marino Cardelli (born 5 October 1987) is an alpine skier from San Marino. He competed in the giant slalom at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics and served as the Olympic flag bearer for San Marino, as he was its only competitor at both games. [1] [2] [3]
Son of a couple of teachers, Marino Cardelli was born on October 5, 1987, in Borgo Maggiore. With his parents and brother, he regularly went skiing in Italy during his youth. [4]
Cardelli participated in Alpine ski races referenced by the International Ski Federation starting in 2002. He competed in the 2004 World Junior Championships, placing 101st in the giant slalom and disqualified in the super G3. The following year, he competed in the World Championships in the giant slalom, where he placed 69th, and then in the World Junior Championships in three disciplines, with his best result being 74th in the giant slalom. [5] In 2005-2006, he began his season with a shoulder and thumb injury. He was then the only representative of San Marino at the Olympic Games in Turin. Flag bearer for his delegation at the opening and closing ceremonies. Cardelli was lined up in the giant slalom where he was eliminated during the first run. [4]

The Irish delegation to Turin consisted of four athletes, two alpine skiers, one cross-country skier, and one skeleton racer. Ester Ledecká is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to not only compete in the Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment but to go further and win two gold medals and do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the second woman to win an Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 were held from 8–21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In May 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the event organizing committee asked the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the event until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the request was rejected by FIS, and the organizers then moved forward with plans for 2021.

He previously participated in the 2017 World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships in Sweden.
