Marjona Malikova (born July 17, 2002 Samarkand, Uzbekistan) is an Uzbekistani chess player. She holds the title of Woman International Master (2023) and is a member of the Uzbekistan national chess team. In 2019, she won the Uzbekistan Chess Championship, and in 2022, she participated in the 44th World Chess Olympiad.
Marjona Malikova was born on July 17, 2002, in the Akdarynsky District of the Samarkand Region. [1] She began playing chess at the age of nine. Starting in 2017, she began participating in major chess tournaments. [2] In that year, Malikova secured the eleventh position at the Asian Championship in Tashkent. [3] In the same year, she took part in the international chess tournament "Qarshi-Open" in Karshi. [4]
In 2018, Malikova competed in the Western Asian Countries Chess Championship held in Tashkent and secured the fifth position. [5] In the same year, she won the national school chess championship.
In 2019, during the Asian Chess Championship in Tashkent, Malikova won a silver medal. [6] [7] In the same year, she became the champion of Uzbekistan in chess.
In 2020, she won the bronze medal at the Anarkulov Memorial Chess Competition in Samarkand. [8] However, in 2021, she finished in sixth place at the Uzbekistan Women's Chess Championship, and in 2022, she placed fourth in the same championship. [9] [10]
In 2022, the Uzbekistan national chess team, which included Marjona Malikova, participated in the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India. [16] For her participation in the chess Olympiad, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan awarded Marjona Malikova the "Kelajak bunyodkori" (Creator of the Future) medal. [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] In the same year, Malikova won the gold medal at the Western Asia Chess Championship 2022 in Issyk-Kul, Korumdu, Kyrgyzstan. [22] [23]

The Tashkent–Bukhara high-speed rail line is a 600-kilometre (373 mi) high-speed rail connection between Tashkent and Bukhara, two major cities in Uzbekistan. The route passes through six regions: Tashkent, Sirdaryo, Jizzakh, Samarqand, Navoiy, and Bukhara in Uzbekistan. Trains operate seven days a week under the brand name Afrosiyob. The line originally ran from Tashkent to Samarqand, but an extension to Bukhara went into operation on 25 August 2016. Travel from Tashkent to Bukhara, a distance of 600 km (373 mi), now takes 3 hours and 20 minutes instead of 7 hours.

The 44th Chess Olympiad was an international team chess event organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in Chennai, India, from 28 July to 10 August 2022. It consisted of Open and Women's tournaments, as well as several events to promote chess. The Olympiad was initially supposed to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, the host of the Chess World Cup 2019, in August 2020, but it was later moved to Moscow. However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then relocated to Chennai following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This was the first Chess Olympiad to take place in India.
