Mark Fisher Fitness (MFF) is a boutique fitness center located in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. MFF offers classes, semi-private training, nutrition counseling and life coaching.

History

Mark Fisher Fitness began as a personal training business entity. Fisher began using the name Mark Fisher Fitness in the fall of 2010 with the launch of a newsletter, but the business did not become a corporate entity until May 2011. In June 2011, co-owner Michael Keeler joined Fisher as a business partner. Current head trainer Kyle Langworthy was hired to offer part-time training and Brian Patrick Murphy was hired to help teach classes.

The business began with a program called Snatched in Six Weeks, a six-week makeover program involving exercise classes and nutritional guidance. The classes took place in a rehearsal space in Roy Arias studios in Midtown Manhattan. The Snatched in Six Weeks program grew, and by January 2012 MFF opened their first "clubhouse" in Hell's Kitchen.

MFF currently has a membership training staff of 15, many who are certified RKC and SFG trainers. Within the first five years of opening, MFF membership increased tenfold and in 2015 MFF was named as one of Inc. magazine's 500 fastest growing companies in America. [1]

MFF offers a non-traditional gym environment. Their tagline is "Ridiculous Humans. Serious Fitness."

MFF is also known for its place in the Broadway community where actors and dancers train for the physical demands of performing. [2] [3] Approximately two-thirds of their clientele are involved in entertainment, approximately half of which are performers, including several Tony Award winners, such as Billy Porter, Katie Finneran, Patina Miller [4] and Jerry Mitchell. Mark Fisher Fitness has been featured in publications like The New York Times , Men's Fitness and Women's Health for fitness techniques, [10] [11] [12] [13] and by outlets like Inc. magazine, Details and TEDxBroadway.

The MFF team launched the Movement and Motivation Lab in 2015, a two-day conference for fitness professionals to hone their business and training skills.

In 2015, Mark Fisher Fitness founded the non-profit organization The Uprising, which exists to empower an army of everyday superheroes to rise up and make a difference in the health and vitality of New York City. [17] Each month, a portion of MFF's membership dues go to help fund the organization's charitable work.

Kinky Boots is a 2005 British comedy-drama film directed by Julian Jarrold and written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth. Nominated at the 64th Golden Globe Awards, it is based on a true story. The film tells of a struggling British shoe factory's young, straight-laced owner, Charlie, who forms an unlikely partnership with Lola, a drag queen, to save the business. Charlie develops a plan to produce custom footwear for drag queens, rather than the men's dress shoes that his firm is known for, alienating many in the process.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted for the third consecutive year, his fourth time as host. Awards in four of the eight acting categories, were given to African-American performers. Furthermore, it is the second time in Tony history that both directing prizes went to women. Garry Hynes and Julie Taymor had previously won in 1998. Kinky Boots had a season best 13 nominations and 6 awards. Cyndi Lauper, composer of the score for Kinky Boots, is the first solo female winner for Best Original Score.

The Assembled Parties is a play written by Richard Greenberg. It relates the story of a Jewish family living on the Upper West Side of New York City over a twenty-year period, from 1980 to 2000. The play, which premiered on Broadway in 2013, received three Tony Award nominations, including for Best Play.

A Broadway original cast album for the musical Kinky Boots was released on May 28, 2013, less than two months after the show opened on Broadway. It was produced by Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the songs, Stephen Oremus, the orchestrator and conductor, and William Wittman. On release it premiered at number one on the Billboard Cast Albums Chart and number fifty-one on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the highest charting Broadway cast recording since The Book of Mormon's album was released two years earlier. Vocalists on the album include Stark Sands, Billy Porter and Annaleigh Ashford,.

John Shivers is a theatrical sound designer based in New York, United States. Shivers specialises in the design of sound systems for musical theatre productions on Broadway and internationally.

Bailey Ryon is a child actress from Southern Pennsylvania. She is known for originating the role of Matilda in Matilda the Musical on Broadway with fellow actresses Milly Shapiro, Oona Laurence, and Sophia Gennusa. She performed in Matilda from March 2013 to January 11, 2014. Her role in Matilda won her a Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre which she won jointly with her fellow Matildas. The Original Broadway Cast recording of Matilda the Musical was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album where she was listed as a principle soloist along with Bertie Carvel, Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Milly Shapiro and Lauren Ward. Before making her Broadway debut in Matilda the Musical, Bailey was Cindy Lou Who in the touring production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Bailey graduated from Susquehannock High School in 2020 before studying musical theatre at James Madison University.

Taylor Elizabeth Louderman is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She is best known for originating the role of Regina George in the Broadway musical Mean Girls, for which she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2018.

They have also received recognition for their performance as Lola in Kinky Boots. In December 2022, they originated the role of Jerry/Daphne in Some Like It Hot, a stage musical based on the 1959 film of the same name. They won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for their performance, and Ghee, along with Alex Newell, became the first openly nonbinary performers to win Tony Awards.
