The Holy War is the name given to the American college football rivalry game played by the Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars and the University of Utah Utes, nearly annually. It is part of the larger BYU–Utah sports rivalry. In this context, the term "Holy War" refers to the fact that BYU is owned and administered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the U of U is a secular, public university, which has a substantial LDS student population. Currently, the U of U president and head football coach are Latter-day Saints.
Chariton Arnold Ferrin Jr. was an American professional basketball player, executive, and college athletics administrator. The War on I-4 is a college rivalry between the University of Central Florida Knights and University of South Florida Bulls. The rivalry is best known for its college football matchup which originated in a series of football games played from 2005 to 2008 and now takes place on Thanksgiving weekend, the de facto "rivalry weekend" for FBS football. From 2013 to 2023, when both schools were part of the American Athletic Conference, the schools began competing annually in all sports both schools sponsored. In 2016, the schools officially adopted the "War on I-4" as an official competition series. Each year, the team with the most wins across all sports receives a gold trophy styled after an Interstate 4 (I-4) road sign with the logos of each school. The winner of the annual football game also receives a similar trophy.

While the university sponsors indoor teams as well, the university does not have an indoor track facility suitable to host meets. There is an indoor track in the Campus Recreation Center which the teams use for practice, but it has no space for indoor field events or spectators.

The 1960–61 Utah Redskins men's basketball team represented the University of Utah in the 1965-66 season. Head coach Jack Gardner would lead the Utes to a Mountain States Athletic Conference championship and the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. Their final game of the season, which was a quadruple-overtime third place game against Saint Joseph's University, was later rescinded by Saint Joseph's team and stricken from the record books days after the game was finished due to it being discovered that three of the Hawks' players were discovered to have been involved with the 1961 NCAA University Division men's basketball gambling scandal. Following that scandal coming to light, it was said that some of Utah's players would testify in court against the main perpatrator of the scandal, former NBA All-Star Jack Molinas. The team finished with an overall record of 23–8.
Michael Kelly is an American college athletics administrator. He is currently the athletic director at the University of South Florida, a position he has held since 2018, as well as a member of the NCAA Division I Council since 2021. Prior to becoming the AD at USF, Kelly served in many high level positions throughout college athletics, including as associate commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the chief operating officer for the College Football Playoff. He is the first person to serve as the president of the Super Bowl host committee for three different communities, doing so for Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, and Super Bowl XLI in Miami. He was also the executive director for the organizing committee for the 1999 Men's Final Four, which was held in St. Petersburg.
