Forrest Gene Taylor (born July 22, 1957) is an American university sports administrator, currently serving as the athletic director at Kansas State University, serving since May 2017. Prior to his current position, Taylor served as the deputy athletics director at the University of Iowa from 2014 to 2017, and was the athletics director at North Dakota State University from 2001 to 2014. Career

Early career

Born in Safford, Arizona, Taylor graduated from Arizona State University in business in 1980 and completed his master's degree from St. Thomas University in 1985. After graduating from Arizona State, Taylor worked in restaurants while completing his master's degree. During the 1985–86 school year, Taylor served at Southern Methodist University working in the ticket office. [2] For the next 15 years, Taylor would serve in various roles, including associate athletics director, at the United States Naval Academy from 1986 to 2001. [3]

North Dakota State

In the summer of 2001, Taylor began his first full-time gig as an athletics director at North Dakota State. During his tenure at North Dakota State, Taylor more than tripled the department's budget, [4] as well as helped the university transition from an NCAA Division II school to an NCAA Division I FCS school. [5] Taylor also hired several successful coaches who have moved on to larger NCAA Division I schools: football coach Craig Bohl (2011–2013 FCS national champions) who is now at Wyoming, and basketball coaches Tim Miles (now at San Jose State) and Saul Phillips (now at Northern State). [6] Taylor left for the University of Iowa to become the deputy athletic director in 2014. [7]

In 2008 and 2012, Taylor was awarded the FCS Central Region Athletic Director of the Year. [8]

Kansas State

In April 2017, Taylor was hired as the new athletics director at Kansas State University, replacing John Currie. [9] During his first year-and-a-half at K-State, Taylor unveiled a new master plan for the athletics department, [10] as well hired Pete Hughes as the head baseball coach, [11] and Chris Klieman as head football coach, replacing Bill Snyder. [12] He currently serves on the College Football Playoff Selection committee.

Personal life

Taylor is married to his wife, Cathy, and has two children.

Lew Perkins is a former athletic director, ending his 40-year career at the University of Kansas. Perkins joined KU in June 2003, taking over for Al Bohl. Perkins previously held similar positions with the University of Connecticut, University of Maryland, College Park, Wichita State University and University of South Carolina Aiken where he gained a reputation for successfully cleaning up schools suffering under NCAA violations. Under Perkins direction, the athletics program at KU had several successful seasons, including winning the 2008 Orange Bowl in football and the 2008 Men's Basketball Championship. His tenure, though, ultimately ended in scandal and early retirement in 2010.

The Sam Houston Bearkats football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Sam Houston State University located in the U.S. state of Texas. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Western Athletic Conference through the 2020–21 season. Sam Houston's first football team was fielded in 1912. The team plays its home games at the 12,593-seat Bowers Stadium in Huntsville, Texas. On January 23, 2014, K. C. Keeler was named the 15th head coach in Sam Houston program history.

John Angus Lauchlin Currie is a college athletics administrator, currently serving as the director of athletics at Wake Forest University. Prior to his post at Wake Forest, Currie held the position of Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at the University of Tennessee from February 28, 2017 until December 1, 2017.

Scott Gregory Hazelton is an American football coach. He is the defensive coordinator at Michigan State University. Hazelton was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Kansas State University in 2019 before moving to Michigan State. He was previously the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of Wyoming in 2017 and 2018 where he led nationally ranked defenses in both seasons, linebackers coach at USC in 2012 and the defensive coordinator of the 2011 FCS National Champions, North Dakota State Bison. Hazelton was tutored as a defensive coach under the guidance of then North Dakota State head coach and current Buffalo Bills assistant Bob Babich and Gus Bradley who is a former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, former Bison assistant coach, and is currently the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jim Schaus is the Commissioner of the Southern Conference. Formerly, he served as athletic director at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.
