In August 2009,Nickels finished third in the primary election for Seattle mayor,failing to qualify for the November 2009 general election,and losing his bid for a third term as mayor. He left office on January 1,2010.

John W. Ladenburg Sr. is an American attorney and politician. Ladenburg was appointed to the Tacoma City Council in 1982 and elected to a full term in 1984. He was elected Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney in 1986,defeating incumbent Bill Griffies. Ladenburg served as Pierce County prosecutor for three terms and was elected county executive in 2000. He was re-elected county executive in 2004 and left office in 2009 after reaching the term limit for the office. One of Ladenburg's principal accomplishments in office was spearheading the development of Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place,a municipal facility that hosted the 2010 United States Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open golf championships.The US Open at Chambers Bay had an economic impact of $134 million for the regional economy.
The 2009 Seattle mayoral election took place November 3,2009. Incumbent Seattle mayor Greg Nickels sought reelection but finished third in the August 18,2009 primary election. The general election was instead between Joe Mallahan and Michael McGinn. McGinn beat Mallahan in the election with 51% of the vote share,becoming Seattle's next mayor.

The Seattle head tax,officially the employee hours tax (EHT),was a proposed head tax to be levied on large employers in Seattle,Washington,United States. The head tax was proposed in 2017 to fund homeless services and outreach and was set at a rate of $275 annually per employee,with hopes of raising up to $50 million annually.
The 2021 Seattle City Attorney election was held on November 2,2021. Incumbent City Attorney Pete Holmes sought reelection to a fourth term in office,but came third place in the officially nonpartisan August 3 primary election and failed to advance to the general election,with both Nicole Thomas-Kennedy and Ann Davison finishing ahead of Holmes in the primary. Davison defeated Thomas-Kennedy in the general election.
