Ronald Magada, professionally known as Maro Uganda, [1] [2] is an Ugandan musician, songwriter and performer, currently based in Bonn Bad godesberg Germany. [3] He is known for his songs, "Mubbi Bubbi" ft David Lutalo, "Rising star", "Kyokoba", "Anjagala" and has done international features like "Chip in" featuring Mark Forster and Maurice Kirya, [4] "Imani" by BSMG, [5] among others. Music career

Maro launched his music career in 2007, juggling between work at the cineplex cinemas garden city mall kampala, campus and got a breakthrough in 2010 with "Toneraga: ft Empress and Mikie Wine [9] [10] In 2011 he signed with "West end entertainment" of  Aziz Azion, a prominent vocalist, writer and guitarist in Uganda and released his first single titled "Sulabulungi" meaning "Good night", a love song. This was  followed by the Lusoga (his native language) hit single "Biweewo" meaning getting finished with something; in this case, with obstacles in love. His second collaboration was with Mya Baganda of the Blu*3 in 2012. [11] He later released "Genda Ewamwe" which was one of his major hit songs in 2013 [12] winning him a chance at his first concert that took place Freedom City in September 2013. [13] [14] [9] In the same year he was nominated in the Buzz Teenies Awards and right after the successful concert, he won the award for Best collaboration of the year in the next weeks "Why" ft Ugandan hip hop star "Gravity Omutujju at the first ever Club Music Video Awards held on the 20th September 2013. He released a single "Rising star" in celebration of his success, speaking about his journey, embedding clips of the awards ceremony and the major concert tours he had by then. He has collaborated with hip hop stars like Navio, GNL ZAMBA, Feffe Bussi, Gravity Omutujju etc

Early life and educational background

Maro was born in Buwolero village, Kagoma subcounty in Jinja to James Magada and Janet Babuleka. [20] [21] His father serves in the Uganda Police Force. He is the eldest of 13 children. Maro attended Nsambya Barracks Nursery School, joined St. Peter Nsambya Primary school, did his PLE at Bupadengo Primary School in Kamuli District, White Land College (currently known as Seroma College) for one year and later joined Light College Mukono doing his UACE. [22] Buloba High School where he sat for his UACE 2006. [23] In 2015, Maro graduated from Makerere University with a bachelor's degree in Development Studies. [24] [19]

Community works

He is an active member of VIVA CONAGUA (an international NGO based in Germany) providing clean water, promoting sanitation and proper hygiene through art and sport. He has worked with Uganda Hands For Hope Namuwongo, Uganda Women Cancer Support Organisation, Inter Aid on Refugees and PLAN International (Uganda) with emphasis on empowerment of girls. [9] [18]

Alex Julius Kwesigabo, better known by his stage name Flex D'Paper, is a Ugandan rapper and songwriter born and raised in Kampala. Starting off his music career, Flex D'Paper was part of the high school rap group, The Rapaholix, which he started with friends, Dasper Cosine and later joined by Apass as an affiliate with whom the trio put out a mix tape, The Eviction Notice that included chart topping singles like "Burning", "Party Life" and "Follow Me" which topped countdowns in Uganda such as NTV and Sanyu FM. Flex D'Paper was part of the 2014 UG Cypher including the finest Ugandan rappers: Navio, Keko, Big Tril, Don MC, AirporTaxi rappers St. Nelly Sade, GNL Zamba, DJ Global, JB, The Mith, Ruyonga, and Atlas.

Undercover Brothers Ug also simply known as Undercover Brothers are a Ugandan music duo composed of guitarist and vocalist Jay K Mulungi and vocalist Timothy Kirya, whose music career sparked off when they won the auditions and represented Uganda in the sixth season of East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame. The duo released their first album titled At Dawn in December 2014. In December 2016, their song Nsikatila was nominated in the Best R&B Song category at HiPipo Music Awards (#HMA) 2017.

Pius Mayanja known by his stage name Pallaso is a Ugandan recording artist, songwriter, producer and videographer. He sings in Luganda, mixes with English and sometimes Kiswahili. His music genre specialty is Afrobeats, Hip hop, Dancehall, Afropop, and RnB. His musical journey started back in 2000 when he started out at Leone Island, a musical group that is owned by his older brother, Dr. Jose Chameleone. He later moved to the US, where he lived for 10 years, before returning to Uganda in 2014. Upon his return, he set out to establish his now very celebrated musical career, and formed the group, "Team Good Music" which seems to be working well in the Uganda Music Industry.

Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Giovanni Kiyingi, is a Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and world music artist. He is known for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, guitar, harmonica, flute, djembe, calabash, congas, drums, and maracas, among others. He was one of the Ugandan artists chosen to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27 November 2015.

Raymond Joseph Mugerwa , better known by his stage name Ray Signature aka Uncle Ray, is a Ugandan singer-songwriter and music producer from Kampala, Uganda. Ray Signature has written and produced songs for several prominent artists in East Africa, including Irene Ntale, Rema Namakula, Juliana Kanyomozi, Fille, Allan Toniks among others. Signature also produces music for campaigns like Reach A Hand Uganda.

Nsikatila, sometimes spelt Nsikatira, is a world-pop love song by Ugandan music duo Undercover Brothers Ug. It was released as the second single from their first EP album and first major release, At Dawn in December (2014) and re-released in January as the first single from their 2016 album, Hitlist. Co-written by the duo's Timothy Kirya and Jay K Mulungi and produced by Jude Mugerwa, the lyrics portray a lover who stammers whenever he talks to his lover.

Sheebah Karungi is a Ugandan musician, dancer and actress who debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

Jackie Akello is a Uganda singer-songwriter and entrepreneur with a coffee brand Village Belle which she launched in 2017. She sings in Acholi, Luganda, Swahili, and English. She is known for her hit love ballad "Amari", the gospel hit "Samanya" with Levixone, and the war-themed pop hit "Apwoyo". Akello is an Acholi from northern Uganda and most of her songs like "Apwoyo" talk about the suffering of the Acholi both during and after the Lord's Resistance Army war that left Acholis out of their homes for a long time.

Baguma Crescent, popularly known as Beenie Gunter, is a Ugandan reggae dancehall artist, commonly known for his hit songs Pon Mi and Olina Work, the latter, a collaboration with Nigerian artist Skales. He released his 25 track debut studio album No Fear in 2019 that featured artists like Skales and Lydia Jazmine.

Matte Edgar, better known by his stage name Eddie Wizzy, is a Ugandan dancer and choreographer. He was nominated in the Afrimma Awards 2016 and 2017 in the African Best Dancer category.

John Kasadha (commonly known as John Blaq is a Ugandan musical artist, musician and entertainer. His style is primarily dancehall and afrobeat.

Reagan Muhairwe, commonly known as Ray G Rhiganz, is a Ugandan singer and songwriter. He mainly sings heritage music in Runyankore. He started singing in 2009 while at school until 2014 when he broke through with his hit song "Amarari". Ray has shared big stages with international artists like Eddy Kenzo, Meddy and Jose Chameleone on the Johnnie Walker Highball tour in Mbarara, He is among Allan Toniks, Sister Charity, Juliana Kanyomozi who come from Western Uganda. Canaan Gents is a Ugandan Acapella Vocal Band composed of Geofrey Elvin Amanyire, Samuel Lubwama, Wasswa Elijah Kissiti and Kato Elisha Kissiti.

Kampala Boy is the first studio album by Ugandan musician Flex D'Paper, released on 10 December 2021. The album features guest appearances from Swae Lee on the intro and songs with Navio, Fik Fameica, A Pass, Keko, Shena skies, Wake the Poet, Mozelo Kidz, Kemishan, Lagum the rapper. The production includes Aethan Music, Mio Made, Sam Lamara, Wake the Poet, Bad Chwezi and Lucian.
