Marta Maggetti (born 10 January 1996) is an Italian windsurfer who sailed in the RS:X class and then later the iQFoil kite surfer class. She was fourth in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 on a windsurfer and in 2022 she won the IQFoil World Championship.

Life

Maggetti was born in the Italian city of Cagliari on the island of Sardinia in 1996. [1]

Her first coach was Andrea Beverino and she joined her local windsurfing club where her father was a member. She had tried other sports including rhythmic gymnastics. At the age of eight she took a strong interest in sailing. [1] In 2013 she was 17 and a member of the Caglieri Sailing Club when she went to Cyprus to return that July with a silver medal from the Under-19 World Championship. She then windsurfed to win the RS:X Youth World Championship which was held in Italy at Civitavecchia. [2]

In 2017 she and fellow surfer Carlo Ciabatti set their ambitions on the Tokyo Olympics. At the end of that year the two of them set out an organisation to raise the local sponsorship from Sardinian businesses. [1]

She competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after being chosen against her rival Giorgia Speciale  [ it ]. Italy was hopeful of her success as they had not won an Olympic sailing medal for some time. She had come fourth in the 2021 European championships. [3] She missed an Olympic medal as she was fourth in the RS:X class. [4]

In 2022 she had transitioned from success at windsurfing to surfing with a hydrofoil. Her coach was Belli Dell’Isca. She won a gold medal at the 2022 IQFoil World Championships in Brest. The silver and bronze medals went to the Israeli teenager Daniela Peleg and Maya Morris. [5]

Maggetti was chosen in February 2024 to join Italy's team at the 2024 Summer Olympics based on her successes in 2022. [6]

He represented Italy at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has been currently training for Fiamma Oro Sport Club under his personal coach and mentor Adriano Stella. As of September 2013, Esposito is ranked no. 45 in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation.

As of September 2014, Vega is ranked seventh in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation, following her successes at the North American and ISAF World Championships.

Saskia Sills is a world champion British windsurfer and member of the British Sailing Team. She has continued to compete in international events such as the European championships, and has been part of the British Sailing team from 2013 to present as a windsurfer initially in the RS:X (Women) Class, and more recently in the IQFoil class.

Katy Spychakov is an Israeli windsurfer. Spychakov won the 2015 Female Under 17 Techno 293 World Championships, the 2016 RS:X Class Youth Female World Championships, and the 2019 U21 Women's RS:X World Championships. She won a silver medal in the Women's 2019 RS:X World Championships.

Emma Wilson is a British windsurfer who won a bronze medal in the RS:X event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She won the RS:X events at the Youth Sailing World Championships in 2016 and 2017, and won medals at the 2018 and 2019 RS:X European Championships, and the 2022 and 2023 IQFoil European Championships.

Fabian Heidegger is an Italian former windsurfer, who specialized in the RS:X class. He represented his country Italy at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing among the top twenty windsurfers in his signature sailboard. Heidegger trained most of his competitive sporting career, as a member of the sailing roster for A.V.L. Caldaro, under the tutelage of his personal coach Paolo Ghione.

iQFoil is a windsurfing class selected by World Sailing to replace the RS:X for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The discipline has similarities to Formula Windsurfing, however a notable difference is that sailors only use one sail. The sail size is 9m2 for the men and 8m2 for the women. The rider has a choice between using a hydrofoil or a conventional 68 cm fin.

Maggie Eillen Pescetto is an Italian Formula Kite sailor who took the silver position at the Kite Open Africa and Middle East Championship in 2022. She was nominated for Olympic competition at formula kite in 2024.
