Marta Maggetti (born 10 January 1996) is an Italian windsurfer who sailed in the RS:X class and then later the iQFoil windsurfer class. She was fourth in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 on a windsurfer and in 2022 she won the IQFoil World Championship. She won a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics
Maggetti was born in the Italian city of Cagliari on the island of Sardinia in 1996. [1]
Her first coach was Andrea Beverino and she joined her local windsurfing club where her father was a member. She had tried other sports including rhythmic gymnastics. At the age of eight she took a strong interest in sailing. [1] In 2013 she was 17 and a member of the Caglieri Sailing Club when she went to Cyprus to return that July with a silver medal from the Under-19 World Championship. She then windsurfed to win the RS:X Youth World Championship which was held in Italy at Civitavecchia. [2]
In 2017 she and fellow surfer Carlo Ciabatti set their ambitions on the Tokyo Olympics. At the end of that year the two of them set out an organisation to raise the local sponsorship from Sardinian businesses. [1]
She competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after being chosen against her rival Giorgia Speciale . Italy was hopeful of her success as they had not won an Olympic sailing medal for some time. She had come fourth in the 2021 European championships. [3] She missed an Olympic medal as she was fourth in the RS:X class. [4]
In 2022 she had transitioned from success at windsurfing to surfing with a hydrofoil. Her coach was Belli Dell’Isca. She won a gold medal at the 2022 IQFoil World Championships in Brest. The silver and bronze medals went to the Israeli teenager Daniela Peleg and Maya Morris. [5]
Based on her successes in 2022, Maggetti was chosen in February 2024 to join Italy's team at the 2024 Summer Olympics [6] where she won a gold medal. She beat the Israeli Sharon Kantor and the British Emma Wilson In September she was honoured in her home town with a reception by the City council president, Marco Benucci, and the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda. Charline Picon is a French windsurfer who specialized in the Neil Pryde RS:X class. She captured two bronze medals in her respective class at the Windsurfing World Championships, and an Olympic title at the 2016 Summer Olympics after attaining a top ten finish at the 2012 Summer Olympics. As of September 2014, Picon is ranked as one of the top ten sailors in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation, following her successes at the European and World Championships and at the Sailing World Cup series.
Federico Esposito is an Italian windsurfer, who specialized in Neil Pryde RS:X class. He was born in Piombino. He represented Italy at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has been currently training for Fiamma Oro Sport Club under his personal coach and mentor Adriano Stella. As of September 2013, Esposito is ranked no. 45 in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation.
Paweł Aleksander Maria Tarnowski is a Polish sailor, son of Jacek Tarnowski, and Monika Wanicka. Tarnowski already competed at the top-level when he was a teenager, becoming a multiple medal winner in Junior World Championships. In 2011 and 2012, he won a gold medal at the RS:X Junior World Championships, and he won medals in European Champion. In first he started in classes Techno 293 class and then the RS:X class, (including in a category age under 17 and under 21 years of age. He competed in the 2024 Olympics in the iQfoil class and came 10th.

Saskia Sills is a world champion British windsurfer and member of the British Sailing Team. She has competed in international events such as the European championships, and has been part of the British Sailing team from 2013 to present as a windsurfer initially in the RS:X (Women) Class, and more recently in the IQFoil class.
Katy Spychakov is an Israeli windsurfer. Spychakov won the 2015 Female Under 17 Techno 293 World Championships, the 2016 RS:X Class Youth Female World Championships, and the 2019 U21 Women's RS:X World Championships. She won a silver medal in the Women's 2019 RS:X World Championships.
Aleksandra Blinnikka is a professional windsurfer from Finland. She began competing internationally in 2013, initially in the Raceboard Class. Over the years, she has participated in various windsurfing disciplines, including Raceboard, RS:X Olympic Class, IQFoil Olympic Class, and Windsurfer LT events. In 2020, she transitioned to the newly introduced IQFOIL Olympic class, which was featured in the 2024 Summer Olympics. Blinnikka has secured two Gold medals at the Raceboard World Championships and the European Championships.
Emma Wilson is a British windsurfer who won a bronze medal in the RS:X event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She won the RS:X events at the Youth Sailing World Championships in 2016 and 2017, and won medals at the 2018 and 2019 RS:X European Championships, and the 2022 and 2023 IQFoil European Championships. She won her second Olympic bronze medal in the iQFoil at the 2024 Paris Games.
Fabian Heidegger is an Italian former windsurfer, who specialized in the RS:X class. He represented his country Italy at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing among the top twenty windsurfers in his signature sailboard. Heidegger trained most of his competitive sporting career, as a member of the sailing roster for A.V.L. Caldaro, under the tutelage of his personal coach Paolo Ghione.
Helen E. "Penny" Wilson is a British former windsurfer, who won multiple Windsurfing World Championships events. She competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics coming 6th and the 1996 Summer Olympics coming 7th.
Finn Hawkins is a British windsurfer. He won a bronze medal at the 2018 World U21 Sailing Championships in Liepāja and a bronze medal, and Team GB's first, at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. He was subsequently a nominee for the UK Windsurfing Association's 2018 Windsurfer of the Year.
Katya Ida Coelho is an Indian professional windsurfer who is currently India's only Women iQFoiler and the first Indian to win an IQFoil Medal at the International Windsurfing Cup in July 2022 in Pattaya, Thailand.
This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2024 Summer Olympics. 312 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Representing Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kantor won the silver medal in the Women's IQ Foil in Marseille, France.
