Martin Harris (born 1969) is an English former International competitive swimmer and backstroke specialist.
Harris represented Great Britain in international championships during the 1990s, spanning 12 years, swimming at 2x Olympics 1992, 1996, 3x FINA World Long Course Championships, and 5x FINA World Short Course Championships silver medal 100m backstroke 1993 3x European LC championships bronze medal 100m backstroke 1995 and England 3x at the Commonwealth Games. 1994 - Gold 100m backstroke, 1994 Bronze medley relay, 1998 silver 4x100m medley relay, 2002. During his career, Harris broke more than 50 British long and short-course swimming records.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, Harris competed in the men's 100-metre backstroke,. He also swam for the sixth-place British men's team in the 4x100-metre medley relay in the qualifying heats. Thereafter, he became a fixture on the British 4x100-metre medley relay team, winning bronze medals in the medley relay at the 1993 European Championships and the 100m backstroke silver medalist 1993 FINA short course world championships. Harris represented England at the 1994, 1998, and 2002 Commonwealth Games. In the 1994 Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Harris won a gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke, and a bronze as a member of the English team in the 4x100-metre medley relay. [2] [3] [4] Representing Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he qualified for both the 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke.
Harris earned a silver medal in the 100m backstroke at the 1993 FINA World Short Course Championships in Palma and another bronze medal with the British team in the 4x100-metre medley relay at the 1997 FINA Short Course World Championships. Harris won a silver medal as a member of the English team in the 4x100-metre medley relay, and 4th in the 100m backstroke at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
At the ASA National British Championships, he won the 50 metres backstroke title six times (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999) and the 100 metres backstroke title six times (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999). [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Nicholas Gillingham, is an English former competitive swimmer, active in the 1980s and 1990s. Born in Walsall, he represented Great Britain in the Olympics, FINA World championships and European championships, as well as representing England in the Commonwealth Games. Medalling in two Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992, he was a World, European and Commonwealth champion in his specialist event, the 200 metres breaststroke. His career broadly overlapped with fellow British breaststroker and Olympic 100 metre breaststroke champion, Adrian Moorhouse.
Neil Cochran is a Scottish former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics, European championships and World University Games, and swam for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, during the 1980s. Cochran competed in medley and freestyle swimming events.

Francesca Jean Halsall is a retired English competitive swimmer who has represented Great Britain at the Olympics, FINA world championships, and European championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. She competed primarily in freestyle and butterfly events.
Jonathan Richard Maden is a male English former competitive swimmer who specialised in breaststroke events.
Robert "Bobby" Hurley is an Australian swimmer and former World Record holder in the short-course 50 metres Backstroke and 2012 World Champion in the same event. In 2009 he won a bronze medal as a team member on the 4 × 200 m Freestyle relay at the FINA World Championships in Rome. He has five FINA World Championship medals to his name, two gold, one silver and two bronze.

Georgia Beth Davies is a British competition swimmer who has represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and European championships, and swam for Wales in the Commonwealth Games. She has won gold in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She currently represents Energy Standard in the International Swimming League.
Xu Jiayu is a Chinese competitive swimmer who specializes in the backstroke. He is the Olympic Silver medalist and twice consecutive world champion in the 100 meters backstroke.
Olivia Smoliga is a 2X Olympian and American competitive swimmer who specializes in backstroke and freestyle events. She won a record eight gold medals at the 2018 World Championships, becoming the first swimmer, male or female, to win eight or more gold medals in a single FINA World Swimming Championships or FINA World Aquatics Championships. Smoliga is the current American record-holder in the 50-meter backstroke. She is also the current Guinness World Record holder for "most gold medals won at a single FINA World Championships" by an individual swimmer. At the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal for swimming the backstroke leg in the preliminary heat of the 4x100-meter medley relay.
Apostolos Christou is a Greek swimmer specializing in backstroke. He is the Greek National Record holder in the 100 metre freestyle and 50, 100, and 200 metre backstroke events, as well as contributing to national record efforts in the 4x100 metre freestyle and medley relays. He is a three-time olympian, qualifying in 2016, 2021, and most recently 2024, where he became Greece's first olympic medalist in swimming since the inaugural 1896 games through his 2nd place finish in the 200 metre backstroke.
Emma Jennifer McKeon, is an Australian former competitive swimmer. She is an eight-time world record holder, three current and five former, in relays. Her total career haul of 14 Olympic medals following the 2024 Olympic Games made her Australia's most decorated Olympian and included one gold medal from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, four gold medals from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and one gold medal from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. With four gold and three bronze medals she was the most decorated athlete across all sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and tied for the most medals won by a woman in a single Olympic Games. She also won 20 medals, including five gold medals, at the World Aquatics Championships; and a record 20 medals, including 14 gold, at the Commonwealth Games.
Luke Greenbank is an English professional swimmer who specialises in backstroke. A medalist in the 200 metre backstroke at the Olympic Games and the World and European championships, he also swam the first leg in the 2019 World and 2020 European Championship gold medal-winning Great Britain medley relay teams. He won a silver medal as lead-off for Great Britain in the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won a gold medal as lead-off for England in the heats of the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Taylor Madison Ruck is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She won two Olympic bronze medals as part of Canada's women's 4×100 metre and 4×200 metre freestyle relay teams at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Ruck won eight medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Her eight medal performance of one gold, five silver, and two bronze tied her with three other athletes for the most all-time at a single Commonwealth Games, as well as making her the most decorated Canadian female athlete ever at a single Commonwealth Games. Ruck is the all-time leading medallist at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships having won nine gold, two silver, and two bronze over the course of the 2015 and 2017 editions.

Rebecca Meder is a South African swimmer. She is the African record holder in the 100 metre individual medley and the South African record holder in the long course and short course 200 metre individual medley. At the 2022 World Short Course Championships, she placed sixth in the final of the 100 metre individual medley. In the 200 metre individual medley at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she placed fourth in the final. At the 2021 African Championships, she won 11 gold medals, six in individual events and five in relay events, swimming on the finals relay for each of the five relay events.
Thomas Ceccon is an Italian swimmer. He is a world record holder in the long course 100 metre backstroke and the short course 4×100 metre freestyle relay. He is also the Italian record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre butterfly. He is the 2022 World champion in the 100 metre backstroke and 2022 European champion in the 100 metre backstroke and 50 metre butterfly. In the 100 metre individual medley, he won the gold medal at the 2022 World Short Course Championships and the bronze medal at the 2021 World Short Course Championships. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, he won a silver medal in 4×100 metre freestyle relay, a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay, placed fourth in the 100 metre backstroke, and placed twelfth in the 100 metre freestyle. On 29 July 2024 he won gold for the 100m backstroke in the Paris Olympic Games.

Medi Eira Harris is a Welsh international swimmer competing for Great Britain and Wales in backstroke and freestyle. She was part of the gold medal-winning women's 4x100 freestyle relay team at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. Representing Wales at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she won a bronze medal in the women's 100 metre backstroke.
