Martinus Spyridon Johannes Lodewijk (born 30 April 1939) [1] [2] is a Dutch comics writer and cartoonist, and advertising adviser.
Martin Lodewijk was born in Rotterdam. He dropped out of high school in 1957, and started drawing cartoons, notably of spacecraft and pirates. In 1959, his first cartoon was published in the newspaper Het Parool , after which he specialized in drawing for commercial advertising. For the weekly comics magazine Pep , he co-created with Jan Kruis the Agent 327 comic in 1966, a feature he ended up writing and drawing for close to fifty years. He provided scripts for other strips, such as Don Lawrence's Storm . After Pep and Sjors merged into Eppo , Lodewijk became Eppo's chief editor.
In 1999, Lodewijk published the world's smallest comic book; Minimum Bug (26 mm by 37 mm). It belongs to the Agent 327 series.
From 2004 onward, Lodewijk succeeded Willy Vandersteen and Karel Biddeloo as writer for De Rode Ridder , with drawings by Claus Scholz.
Lodewijk worked on the third open source movie by the Blender Foundation, Sintel , released in 2010.
In 1973, Martin Lodewijk and his brother Tim participated in the knowledge quiz show Twee voor Twaalf . The brothers won, and returned for the special jubilee quiz in 2005, where they reached the finals.
For his whole work in comics, Lodewijk was presented the Stripschapprijs in 1978, [3] [4] the highest award in the Dutch comics world.
On 29 April 2011 Martin Lodewijk was invested as a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau. [5] He received this royal medal because of his comic work.
Marten Toonder was a Dutch comic strip creator, born in Rotterdam. He was probably the most successful comic artist in the Netherlands and had a great influence on the Dutch language by introducing new words and expressions. He is most famous for his series Tom Puss and Panda.

The Stripschapprijs is a Dutch prize awarded to comic creators for their entire body of work. It is awarded annually by the Stripschap, the Dutch Society of comics fans, since 1974. The prize is non-pecuniary, but is considered the most important award for comics in the country.

In Dutch the most common designation for the whole art form is "strip", whereas the word "comic" is used for the (usually) soft cover American style comic book format and its derivatives, typically containing translated US superhero material. Agent 327 is a Dutch action/comedy comic series by cartoonist Martin Lodewijk. It was a regular feature from 1966 until 1983, and again from 2000 to the present. The eponymous Agent 327 is a James Bond/Maxwell Smart-like Dutch secret agent who fights for "Righteousness and World Peace"; his looks are based on the character of Peter Gunn. Often partnered with the junoesque Olga Lawina, his adventures take him around Europe and the rest of the world as he battles numerous villains, both fictional and parodies of real people.

He first came to attention as an underground cartoonist in the early 1970s for the sexually explicit comics series Ans en Hans krijgen de kans. He is best known for co-creating Sjef van Oekel, a long-running comic strip based on the TV character, written by Wim T. Schippers. He received the 1989 Stripschapprijs for his body of work.
